We got-new coaches and a bas- ketball team that received honor- able mention in the Associated Press poll t23rd to be exactt for the first time ever. An epidemic caused a record number of 163 stu- dents to be absent one day. We got-last but not least, new classes, clubs, and buildings, too. Mr. Phil Eskew, commis- sioner of the IHSAA, spoke at the dedication of the new gym. The marines landed to explain their new fitness program for high school stu- dents and to invite us to participate. We also had a visitor from the Pub- lic Service Co. of Indiana to talk about the energy crisis. A represent- ative of the Neighborhood Youth Corps met with us to outline a new work program that would enable students to earn extra money-and you have to admit that bread sure comes in handy. These pictures reflect some of the different moods that were ex- perienced this school year: mis- chief, expectancy, meditation, vic- tory, defeat and happiness. Put it all together with good kids, an out- standing faculty, and lots of com- munity spirit we were bound to end up with more in 74. . Hand in Hand Science and Math Math is the foundation that Science builds upon. Waters, Jeff Wiggam Guard Mark Harbin Forward 1973-74 Varsity With the coming of new leadership at New Washington High School in 1973-74. our Mustangs chalked up one of the best basketball seasons ever at NWHS, winning 17 of 23 games, including eight straight at the start of the campaign. The Mustang roundballers were runners-up in the Madison Sectional. marking the first time in 25 years that New Washington had appeared in the final game. All five members of the starting unit were named to the Madison All-Sectional team, and Big 6-6 center Lynn Sanders and 6-1 guard Jeff Wiggam were named to the Associated Press All-State Basketball team. Wiggam was named to the first team Bloomington Herald-Telephone All-State Basketball Team, a team that is selected by the 420 basketball coaches in Indiana. Mark Harbin, a 6-2 sophomore forward, was named to the Tribuneis Honorable Mention list, an honor awarded only one other sophomore in the state. Wiggam, Sanders, and Harbin were also named to the Dixie-Monon All-Confer- ence Team, with Wiggam being named the iiPlayer ofthe Yeariy in the conference. Coach Mike Sandifar, whose crew won the Dixie-Monon title with a perfect 5-0 mark, was named uCoach of the Yearii in the conference. Wiggam was also awarded an academic honor by the Indiana High Basketball Coaches Association, being named to the All-State Academic Basketball Team, an honor given to the top 50 scholar-athletes in Indiana.
