Jfafbgn rwin We, the class of 1958, feel it a privi- lege to dedicate our annual to Mrs. Kathryn Irwin: For her 41 years, of which 40 has been here at New Virginia, of unselfish de- votion to the welfare of her students. For her sympathetic awareness of their problems. For her constant and untiring efforts to instill in them the desire for scholastic achievement. .xdclminiafrafion Dowell Loomis, Harold Allen, Jim Hatcher, Theo Irwin, Al Beckett, Fred Forman. Our ideas of the New Virginia School consist of students, teachers, studies and fun, therefore all too often we forget to include the most important of all, the school board. The school board consists of 7 members. These 7 men are the core of our school system. Without them we could not continue our education. These men serve without monetary reimbursements and much too often receive criticism instead of thanks for their work. They are men who are interested not only in their own children's education but in the education of all young people and in the betterment of their community. This is shown by the fact that 3 of the 7 members have no children in school at the present time. The school board members have various backgrounds and occupations. In a farming community it is only natural that 4 of the members are farmers, 1 an insurance man, l a grocer, and 1 a lum- berman. A These men's devotion to the educational system can be in a small way measured by the length of service each man has given to the school. ' Theo Irwin has been on the board 27 years. Frank Stiffler is now serving his 25th year. This makes James Hatcher's twelfth year on the school board. Harold Allen has been a member for 10 years. Dowe Loomis has been on the board 7 years. Al Beckett and Fred Forman have both served 6 years. At the present time Mr. Hatcher is the President, Mr. Stiffler the Secretary and Mr. Irwin the Treasurer. Mr. Stiffler and Mr. Irwin have held their respective offices since they were elected to serve on the board. For the past eighteen years Superintendent C. O. Lundby has devoted his time, energy and pro- fessional knowledge to the betterment of the New Virginia School and community. His ability as a teacher and administrator and his understanding of students of all ages has made a mark on the lives of each of the students who have attended the New Virginia School. Mr. Lundby came to New Virginia as the principal and coach and has remained since as superi- intendent. During the years Mr. Lundby has taught in many fields. M M Mr. Lundby attended Luther College at Decorah, Iowa and received his degree in chemis ry 3 Iowa University and Drake University. 4 jd--4 Through the years Mr. Lundby has been more than a superintendent and teacher: to :Q-Q ,,'5l 1 :m5'3', he has been a friend willing to give a helping hand, a word of advice, honest criticism, an-'fi,N.'4-Q-1 the back. QW '- The class has gained and lost mem- bers through the years, but six of the original class has remained together. They are Linda Beckett, Patricia Clai- ser, Jack Handly, Gary Morey, Mary Putney, and Jim Reed. We began the freshman year with 24 members but during the year we lost Kay Hood, Nancy Woolson and Harry Spence which left us 20 at the beginning of our sophomore year. The sophomore year was successful with a gain of one, Anna Mae Ellis. During the junior year we lost Margaret Weeks and again had a membership of 20. Two boys dropped out at the start of the senior year, Jerry Belwe and David Denny. However, Fred Hartmann joined us. Out of the 19 graduating, Anna May and Fred are the only ones who were not initiated into the NVHS. Thou many of our paths may never cross again we shall never forget our friends in the class. And as the years go by we shall have many fond reconcilations of the happy carefree years we spend at the New Virginia School. Senior Class of '58 ,xl .Fw d ,.4 f . W - U 1 1 nt The class of 1958, being a very gregarious group, have had many successful joint projects. One of the most outstanding of these was the successful launching of an earth orbiting satillite which was aptly called Spooficial. One of the most outstanding and advanced mechanisms of this space satil- lite was its 'prognosticator'. Of all the data accumulated from this device, we consider the follow- ing to be the most factual. For the year 1968 Spoofnic recorded: The former Ruth Houlette is now Mrs. Charles Spence and is settled down on a nearby farm with her four children. are very happy and are often visited by Mr. Sn 'ght Green and family. Mary Putney is now private secretary to the President of Sears and R??ebuck 8: Co. and is en- joying her work very muqgii. Q Fred Hartmann has seived his time in the army and is construction e igineer in his spare time-- when he can't find Carolyim available he is chief comedian on Spoofnick. Shirley Allen is privatQ secretary to James Reed, the first Democrat' President of the United States in sixteen years. Larry Jones is earning is living by selling can openers. He is very successful because of his great ability of exaggeratin facts. Mary Louise Kibbe is no parking towards her first million. ..:,, ree dependents are slowing her down a bit but she is makilf g very good progress. Here the records are rather blurred but from the sideburns, guitar, monkey wrench and a little imagination I would judge that this is Floyd Kibbe. Jack Handley is nqpghappily married to Judy Camp and earns his livin it aughtering hogs at Spoofnic's compiled data strongly indicates that all nineteen members of the Senior class of 1958 will become successful in their various endeavors, making good use of the schooling obtained at NVHS. .unvlercfaririmen uruord 4 1 f-Q 'n f K ' Q X Q N, lik 7 IVHII I 4 , S-, lj ? 7 11 I Lanny Banker Katheryn Denny- Dwight Green- Evelyn Hartman John Keller George Mann Linda King Louise McCuddin JoAnn Ogle Eldon Sanderson C Erville Smalley , Stanley Smalley Melvin Stills -H Mary Stuart Catherine Vickroy James Walker ' Ronald Watson Dick Weeks Sam Westerly Donald Wilson 3 X NX AQ X 5 .
