For many years our school has had as its symbol a ship. To some it is just the picture of an old, quaint sailing vessel, and no more. However, to others it has come to hold a deeper meaning. For as the first Dutch settlers in this area embarked from Utrecht, Holland, upon a ship which they had built to endure the hardship of an ocean crossing, so does a high school student build a ship to withstand the hardships met on the sea of life. During these past few years. each one of us has been outfitting his own ship with. knowledge. experience. and social development. As seniors, we are ready to 'Venture out upon a dark and uncertain sea. Each one of us will be tossed against the rocks of life and will run aground on its hidden reefs. Those who have built their crafts weak and frail will sink, while those whose crafts have been built strong and sturdy will safely reach their destination, the goal for which they have set their course. We therefore dedicate this book to ships: to the ships of the past in which the original Dutch settlers crossed from Holland to settle on our shores and found the colony of New lvtrecht, and particularly to the ship we hare just built. which we hope will curry us forward into a successful future. C. P. and ,l. K. Two
