Potpourri gave us a chance to work on a show written, produced, and directed by students. For the first time we were given the responsibilities of plan- ning sets, preparing scripts, blocking scenes, arrang- ing and rehearsing music, coordinating lighting and sound effects - all the jobs of a show that are usual- ly administered by adults. We worked hard to put Potpourri '67 together in only five weeks, but the re- sult was a successful production despite the frantic schedule. This year's Twang continued the Potpourri tra- dition of excellence, building on the fine reputation of last year's show. Potpourri '67 expanded its scope in all aspects of production. The script, while free from the hindrance of a plot, was held together by the theme of children's stories which gave the creative staff a basic point of departure. The band, conducted by Bill Kroeger, reached its finest point in versatility and quality, and the chorus numbers, arranged and rehearsed by Wendy Korzon, were polished and easily understood, unlike the songs of many student shows. potpourri The sets, designed by Kathi Slater and built by Ann Baker and her crew, were simple yet effective. The improved lighting helped to set the mood for each scene, notably the lighting effects in The Son of Kesselstein and the changing colors in the dance, A Child's Game. One of the salient features of this year's Potpourri was the magnificence of the costumes, designed and created by Martha Howard and Barbara Guzofsky. The great increase in each cast member's costumes was a result of many late nights spent at school fit- ting, cutting, and sewing. The brilliance of new ma- terials and more colors was especially evident in the opening number and the toy shop dance. The bulk of the credit for presenting the show how- ever, goes to Producer Jordan Engel and Director Kathy Reifenberg. They were the people responsible for smooth transitions from one scene to a runner to another scene. They can be pleased with their efforts of eight months, for Twang plunked a clear, solid note of excellence.
