Members of ORCHESIS, West's newly formed dance organization, met weekly under the guid- ance of Mrs. lrine Nadel, for an enjoyable and educational hour of modern dance technique and creation. Each girl strove for individual perfection in choreography and improvisation. Throughout the year various modern dance films were shown to the club to widen their knowledge of profes- sional dancing and to urge outside attendance of concerts and other dancing activities. IRIX Students especially interested in acting could find creative outlet for their talents in the REPERTORY THEATRE group, formed this year. Members were chosen on a try-out basis at the beginning of each semester. The group had two prime purposes: first, to provide rare but valuable experience un- common in the usual high school productions, and second, to service the other school departments by presenting short plays and readings to classes. Performances often coordinated with the topics of class discussion. The group's first play, ln White America, was presented in cooperation with history classes during December and early January. 88

Did ya hear the one about BRIDGE CLUB? No dues, no officers, no organization, no set meeting time, and no schedule. Nothing but a love of the game. The purpose of the club, as Sponsor Mr. William Zibart said with finesse, is to unite people with a common interest-bridge-and give them an opportunity to play. Oil The NORTH SHORE EARLY MUSIC EN- SEMBLE, a group of six vocalist-instrument- alists, is as head Benjamin Bagby noted, the first attempt for a high school group of this nature in the much-neglected field of 13th to 16th century music. The group has performed at many high schools and colleges, including the University of Illinois and Northwestern university. Among their many instruments are the harpsi- chord, lute, and psaltery. They hope others will continue the group's work after the present members graduate. For dues of S3 and an interest in radios, West students could join the newly-formed RADIO CLUB. Under Sponsor Mr. William Bushnell and of- ficers Bob Slater, presidentg Gary Pearce, vice-president, and Phil Lohr, secretary-treasurer, the club partici- pated in the Halloween party with a demonstration of a teletype machine connected with New Trier East. The club held a class teaching the Morse code and instruction so that members could receive their licenses. It also set up antennas and stations from which members could communi- cate with other radios.
