n-club Dave Morrison, president Glen Greene, vice-president Every boy who has earned a varsity letter in an interscholastic sport is an automatic member of N-Club. The club gives athletes an organization where they can meet and associate with other students who share their interests and talents. At New Trier West, N-Club became a separate group by breaking away from Tri-Ship. They became a service organization on their own, selling programs at the football games and providing ushers for the basketball games. A boy's only requirement for membership, besides being a var sity letter-holder, is his pledge to abide by the athletic code of living. This code prohibits members from smoking and drinking, and constitutes revocation of athletic letters and expulsion from the club if the code is broken. SENIORS Front: M. Stein, R. Weinstein, S. n. t. guard Martha Reilly, assistant girls' head Blake Rambach, boys' head In R Mr. Spreitzer, sponsor 70 The New Trier Guard at West established itself last year. When sponsors Mr. Jim Spreitzer and Mr. Dick Becker organized this service club, they spent most of the time training guards to be good swimming teachers, giving them lesson plans for Saturday classes and advice on teaching techniques. The results were impressive: long lists of North Shore children waiting to fill vacancies in the Satur- day swimm-ing classes. The swim school expanded with a summer program. There, the teaching plans were revised and improved to prepare the guards for the fall classes once again. This year, Guard not only continued its year-old tradition of service to the community, they emerged as one of the major organizations within the school. The Guard members' loyalty and spirit helped them to produce a tremendous and worthwhile effort by win- ning first place honors in the Dad's Day float parade. They also raised money by holding bake sales to sponsor car rallies and to help pay for the swimming team awards banquet. Guard members provided the nucleus for sup- porters of the swimming team, and girls on the Guard timed at all of the home meets. They acquired some- thing which is unusual for a service organization to have-class.
