gymnastics Coach Joe Giallombardo had a great respect for this year's varsity gymnastics squad. Consid- ering the difficulties the boys had to overcome, he said, l feel they did a great job. The coach had high praise for three boys in particular: Cap- tains Jeff Sawyer, Pat Davy, and Rick Simmons. Sawyer consistently took a fourth place or better on the high bar and parallel bars, while Davy and Simmons did well in the all-around competition. The difficulties overcome included the first winter at West. The team then missed working out on some of the apparatus while gyms were being built, and had to rely on the frosh experience at the East school. Coach William Buck was pleased at the hard work and achievements of the frosh-soph team, and hopes to see this spirit carry on at their var- sity level.

track The varsity indoor track team compiled an excel- lent 7-0 dual-meet record in their first year of varsity competition. Losing only to Maine West in the league meet, the trackmen shared first place honors with Maine. Tom Langston and Vern Ahlstrand were outstand- ing in the sprints. Dick Lang and Andy Hunter led the long distance runners. With Jeff Morrison consistantly taking first or second place in the pole vault, and two strong relay teams, the Cowboys were a strong and well-balanced team, indoors and out. Indoor track is considered a warm up to the out- door track season. The team's spirit, begun with a successful indoor season, continued throughout the outdoor season.
