SOCCSI' From the first game, it was evident something was lacking in NT-W soccer. The ability was there-the spirit wasn't. Whether it was due to coaching, attitude, or just a losing spirit can't be said. But one thing was certain-the booters lost a lot more than they won. The defensive corps, led by goalie Gary Anderson, was strong throughout the season, allowing an average of less than two goals per game. But the offensive was sporadic, with Dave Hathaway and Scott Gold as the only two consistently good players. Those games the team did win usually amounted to an individual effort by one member of the offense coupled with great defen- sive work-but this doesn't always win soccer games. Next year should prove more successful for the Cowboy booters. With six juniors starting varsity this year, and a strong JV team, a state championship in '69 is a definite possibility. The junior varsity, under Coach Robert Ward, seemed to make up for the spirit the varsity lacked. The team played well together, despite the fact that players were constantly- being shifted up to varsity and back down again. Finishing with a 6-4-2 record, defense was again a strong point, allowing an average of less than one goal per game. The sophomores, under Coach Robert Swan, lost their first four games, but came back undefeated in the remaining 10 to capture first place in the league. . S .1 X, , .. l 5 , ,,
