music The music department became full-grown this year. It expanded opportunities for students to participate in some aspect of music by instituting more music theory and appreciation courses and more choral classes. Musettes and Troubadours provided a chance for sophomore girls and boys with better than average ability to sing in a select group. The Concert Band prepared underclassmen for the more advanced Sym- phonic Band, which performed many times throughout the year. Choir, one of the advanced groups in the Division of the Performing Arts, provided juniors and seniors with the opportunity of working with difficult choral literature. In addition to this, choir members combined their talents with the Orchestra and the advanced dancers to produce the spring musical, Finian's Rainbow. Other groups, such as Vocaliers and the Glee Club, performed for many school concerts and out- of-school engagements. The most accomplished of the traveling companies however, were the Boys' and Girls' Ensembles, made up of juniors and seniors. The year ended with West's first Commencement Concert and the annual East-West Performing Arts banquet in June. ORCHESTRA Front: S. Tucker, G. Hemphill, D. Johnson, S. Goldman, M. Lange, B.
