opera Finian's Rainbow was West's first musical to mix light-hearted laughs with a poignant and meaningful theme. The advanced divisions of the Performing Arts in music and dance presented the show April 24, 25, 26, and 27, and for the first time, a matinee performance was given. One of the seven great fantasy musicals, Finian's Rainbow weaves many different plots into one lively script and a musical score that is considered one of Broadway's finest. It tells the story of an Irishman who brings his daughter to America in order to strike it rich. The rest of the story revolves around the mythical hamlet of Rainbow Valley, where the father, Finian, and his daughter, Sharon, settle and make a new life for themselves. Not only was the show, under the excellent direction of Mr. Denis Moreen, a theatrical success in every respect, but the Performing Arts Division can be proud to have presented a financial success that will benefit this year's seniors who will major in music at college. 102

, W., ., ,Wi ,, stage crew Stage crew? They're the kids who work in the auditorium in the baggy blue jeans and sta-prests. They are responsible for the lighting, sound, and con- struction of sets for all of West's productions. The four members of senior crew work with Mr. R. C. Jackson and the junior crew to set up assemblies and work at concerts. Senior crew member Kathy Reifenberg jokingly defined their purpose as, to diminish the unsubstantiated opinion that the other members of the Performing Arts Division have of themselves.
