lt all started when ldon't know, it's all a haze to me. l'm running as fast as l can. My palms are sweaty. l trip and fall into a small ditch, full of water, and . . . slugs, l guess they were. l got up, looked at the bruise on my elbow, and remembered, l either laughed or cried. These four years of high school were nothing to me, or maybe everything, l'm not sure which. What if l don't get in? What if the college doesn't like me . . . it's all unclear . . . l should have played a sport, or have been a genius, or maybe neither. Well, if l don't get in, there is always the forest preserve, or the train tracks, or maybe neither. Then I got up, looked at my elbow, and pulled off a slug, it made a rather obscene popping noise. l ditched two classes to get home early, or maybe it was three, but it's all relative after all. Maybe it was four. l plopped my books on the table, and the dog was barking at me, or maybe it was really laughing. Then Mom stood there, elaborately robed in Seniors pink and green, and she had a gun, or a knife, and a couple of envelopes, or maybe it was three, but anyway they were all labeled: From: College of Your Choice To: Student who may or may not be of our choice l don't know, l'm confused. lt's all a haze. My mother laughs, as her pink pinkens and her green glows, and the dog barks, and the envelopes laugh, or maybe it was me . . . Well, doctor, l usually wake up at this point in the dream. l've been having it ever since l took PSAT's junior year. l just can't figure out what to do. I SENIORS 283
