,. to Sir Alex of a party deep in the woods. Two young knaves in Sir Elliot's P.E. class had warned him that the same party would be closed. Before their departure, the trio of noble partiers trekked to the oracle at White Hen. Purchasing extra rations of gum, they were accosted by a wild, red-eyed minstrel. When asked whats up, Sir Phillip replied that he and his merry band were seeking the true meaning of the New Trier weekend, and described their final destination. The mystic night wanderer made an odd grumbling sound in the back of his throat and swayed with eyes shut as the spirit of the oracle possessed him. He told the trio of young Trevians that their intentions were cool, Sir Alex thanked him heartily. Llpon leaving White Hen, the gallant Sir Elliot spied a damsel in distress, a fair maiden with whom he had feasted last Tuesday. She slouched meekly in the corner near the telephone, heart- broken and bereft of transportation to the western countries, where she planned to meet her friends. As the merry Trevs were, indeed, heading westward, and, as they were all chivalrous young men, they escorted her to the Volkswagen. Although the journey was a long and arduous one, there was much frivolity, playing of music, and consuming of libations along the way. At last, the sure sign of their destination came into view. The band of party-goers prepared themselves for conquest, green and blue proudly displayed on their coats, hair groomed, ready for the moment of truth. Sir Elliot, Sir Alex, and Sir Phillip, escort- ing the fair maiden, Constance, strode across acres of lawn toward the castle. They breeched the moat by a small wooden bridge and tugged on a long, tasselled cord to gain entrance to the gig. An incredible din arose from within. Sir Elliot pounded furiously on the oaken door. At once they were face to face with a gruesome ogre who demanded two gold coins in return for entrance. Pleading in the name of the Divine Spirit of the Weekend, who had spoken directly to Sir Phillip, Sir Elliot asked to speak with the wealthy squire who owned the estate and the vast tracts of land surround- ing it. The massive door swung back in their faces. Indeed, the party was closedg their quest was disillusioning. STUDENT LIFE 1 1

ci rrzmt iglqts Sir Phillip was a chivalrous knight of the Trevian order. He was practiced in the arts of dressing well and receiving good grades. Both his parents and teachers admired his courteous behavior and quick wit. One dark, foggy May morning, as Sir Phillip wallowed through the teacherous mire of Indian Hill Swamp, a vision appeared from out of the sky. The unearthly image of a house filled with laughter and music, and surrounded by parked cars, shone brightly through the early morning haze. Sir Phillip's earthly existence had suddenly taken on new meaning. He now knew that he could no longer spend his weekends bagging groceries at Jewel, playing sports, maintaining his family s estate, and complementing his education with homework. Sir Phillip was destined to lead the quest for the true New Trier weekend. At high noon the Royal Order of Trevians met around their cafeteria round table. Sir Phillip recounted his miraculous revela- tion and persuaded two of his fellow knights to join him in his crusade for the ultimate party. Plans were made for Friday nightg car keys had been procured from parents, and libations had been securely stowed in the trunk of Sir Elliot's trusty mount, Volkswagen. The men uncurled the map of their journey and prepared for the distant realms of Northfield. A gamely wench had spoken lO STUDENT LIFE

The dejected partiers climbed into the trustyVW and headed to Constance's humble cottage on the rocky shores of Lake Michi- gan to watch Animal House on the Betamax. After the film had ended, the three weary knights traveled homeward to the rustic farm village of Wilmette. Their Volkswa- gen was in dire need of gas. As they drove through dense fog along the steep and winding ravine paths, Elliot, Alex, and Phillip brooded over their thoroughly disenchanting night. Although the evening was justly proclaimed a bummer by all, Sir Elliot, Sir Alex, and Sir Phillip remembered that many a Saturday night still lay ahead, the Trevs remained undaunted in their eternal quest for the New Trier weekend.
