' Douglas Wfhite Individual Sports HAMPERED BY WEATHER AND INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS. IM PRESENTED A WELL-ROUNDED PROGRAM OF SOMETHING OLD AND SOMETHING NEW Despite had weather and varsity interscholastic interfer- ence, the Boys' Intramural Sports Program finished all scheduled tournaments on time. Complications were caused by the extended basketball season, lack of good weather in the fall, and the bad condition of Duke Childs Field. Nev- ertheless, the IM sports program succeeded admirably in reaching its goals of providing an organized afterschool sports program for all boys, regardless of athletic ability, as well as an opportunity to administer and referee this pro- gram. Team participation wm extremely high while individual participation increased markedly over last year's. Due to an extremely capable job of refereeing, there were almost no protests this year, declared Dave Rosenthal, student di- rector. All this was the result of a well-coordinated and responsible board. Gene Tcihloom, Head of Team Sportsg Doug XVliite. Head of Individual Sportsg and Fred Ilan- ning, Head of 'Points and Awards, contributed substantially to lM's success. The annual IH sponsored Senior-Faculty All-Star bas- ketball game netted over five hundred dollars for the Tom Nisbet Scholarship Fund. The Indian Stampede, New Trier's afternoon of mad- ness, was again scheduled, and was to be climaxed by the second running of the seven-mile marathon run and the mammoth pushball contest, in which the junior Hot Dogs were pitted against the Senior Animals. The second annual Intramural Award Banquet featured speakers Alvin Dark and -lim Brosnan. The first plaee trophy for four-year competition was captured by Gene Teibloom. First place award winner for seniors was Dave Rosenthal: for juniors, Rick Sofkag for sophomores, Ron Sofkag for freshmen, Bruce Ponti. lint perhaps the most rewarding experience this year was the undefeated basketball season of the Ill staff, who triumphed over the New Trier dishxvmhers, the Swim- ming Team, Tri-Ship, and numerous other amorted teams. lVe hope to establish the IRI staff's supremacy as a New Trier tradition, boasted Rosenthal.
