For we, The seniors, noT only had To adiusT ourselves To The new rouTines, buT we were also responsible Tor leading The resT oT The school in adiusTing To These changes. The TacT ThaT This year aT New Trier has run smooThly and seen many ac- complishmenTs ThroughouT These hecTic days is a TribuTe To The sTudenTs, The TaculTy, and The adminisTraTive heads who have all helped To mainTain New Trier's repuTaTion as one oT The counTry's ouTsTanding high schools. Coming baclr To New Trier in The Tall, sTudenTs Tound The oulsTanding diTTerence was The absence oT The old Tower THIS WAS ONCE THE WEST WING OF THE OLD MAIN BUILDING Building and The AudiTorium Building boTh oT which had been Torn down during The summer. The high poinT oT The razing occurred in AugusT, over Two monThs ahead oT sched- ule, when The Tower was Telled in one morning's Time, leav- ing only The small Taslc oT clearing The land by The Time school began. The Temporary AdminisTraTion Building, begun in lvlarch, was also compleTed early in The summer and was ready Tor occupancy during summer school. The building, which is being used Tor adminisTraTive and deparTmenTal oTTices, was builT almosT six monThs sooner Than called Tor in The original plans, and cosT approximaTely SIO0,000. ParTiTions were also employed in The Tri-Ship room, which was converTed To classrooms. OTher smaller consTrucTion iobs were compleTed eiTher during The summer or early in The Tall. New roll-away bleachers were insTalled in The main gymnasium To malqe ThaT place more adapTable Tor various condiTions, in view oT The TacT ThaT The school no longer had any regular audiTorium. These bleachers will accommodaTe up To one Thousand peo- ple aT a Time, raising The seaTing capaciTy oT The main Tloor To 2300. NeverTheless iT was sTill Tound necessary To cuT down on The number oT assemblies held and The amounT oT people aTTending Them, Tor Room I82, The small audiTorium, ap- peared Too Tiny and The gym Too large Tor many acTiviTies. A new enclosed passageway on The easT wing oT The school was compleTed, leading Trom The library To The main gym. AlThough noT used exTensively aT The beginning oT This year, This new corridor saw much more TraTTic when ouTside walks on The wesT side oT The wing and The ramp connecTing The 191450 Jw wing wiTh The norTh corridor were closed up by consTrucTion worlc. Une Tinal iob oT consTrucTion was The erecTion oT Two rooT shelTers over The wallcs Trom The ME. hall To The Music Build- ing, To permiT saTe passing beTween Those poinTs in bad weaTher. These shelTers connecT wiTh eiTher side oT The load- ing doclcs. The disappearance oT The Tower Building broughT along many changes in rooms. Two rooms in The Music Building were converTed To sTudy halls, buT There was sTill one less sTudy hall Than in pasT years. Due To lack oT space, Tri-Ship and Girls' Club sTudy halls were disconTinued Temporarily. lSecond semesTer, however, saw Girls Club sTudy hall res- umed.l The book sTore was moved To The basemenT oT The Music Building, The healTh oTTice was relocaTed in The ln- dusTrial ArTs secTion, and The Echoes oTTice Tound iTselT in a corner oT The Tield house, proving ThaT every spare inch oT space was uTilized ThroughouT The schooll The main norTh corridor soon became The social cenTeriT oT New Trier.
