Though The parTicipaTion oT sophomores in evenTs oT all kinds, The school has been able To see The wealTh oT TalenT ThaT lies in The class. In addiTion, The several class parTies have succeeded in uniTying The soph- omores more and making Their proiecTs more eTTicienT. Early in OcTober The elecTion oT class oTTicers was held, wiTh Tony ETnyre being elecTed presidenT: KaThy James, vice presidenT5 Nancy Blass, secreTary: and Buck Robinson, Treasurer. TogeTher wiTh The sophomore sTeering commiTTee, comprising one represenTaTive Trom each adviser room, The oTTicers led The class in iTs many acTiviTies. Two class parTies were held This year, and The response To boTh was ouTsTanding. The TirsT, SnowTlake Serenade, Han 26' was held on December I I and was non-daTe. The class oTTi- cers appoinTed Parker Palmer and Judy Bules as heads OT enTerTainmenT, and They did a superb iob oT gaThering TalenT Tor The parTy. ThirTy diTFerenT acTs Tried ouT almosT a monTh beTore The acTual evenTs, wiTh eighTeen being chosen To parTicipaTe. These acTs Then rehearsed Tor weeks To brush Themselves up. Emcees aT The parTy were Parker Palmer and Joe l-luyler. OTher commiTTee heads included KaThy I-linkle, in charge OT decoraTions: Chuck Anderson, assisTed by Jennie LighTner, handling The reTreshmenTs: Phyllis Blair, direcTing The publiciTyg and Tom Mchlicholas, head oT clean- up. Jon Mills was head oT The band cornmiTTee ancl Gail Fairbairn direcTed The commiTTee on inviTaTions. The second parTy, held in April, was also a success. The increased enThusiasm OT The sophomores is shown by The TacT ThaT sixTy-Tive acTs Tried ouT, only sevenTeen being able To be chosen. The Tine organizaTion by The oTTicers and sTeer- ing commiTTee and The ouTsTanding number oT people sign- ing up 'Tor working on comrniTTees were Two reasons why The dances were unTorgeTTable. This year's Trosh-soph play, l Love Lucy, saw many sophomores Taking imporTanT parTs in The dramaTic deparTmenT oT New Trier. The play was held December 3 and 4 and boasTed a good audience aT Joseph Sears School. Sophomore girls, in Their gray and orange sweaTshirTs and caps, were very much in evidence aT sporTing evenTs, as were The soph aTh- jw . leTes, who Turned in good sporTs records. Lagniappe, The opera, Tri-Ship, Girls' Club, Council, GAA., Echoes, and various clubs also ncTiced The upsurge in underclass parTici- paTion by The class oT '57, Much crediT can be given To Mrs. ElizabeTh Cavanaugh and Mr. Erwin WeingarTner Tor Their excellenT help and ad- vice as sophomore adviser chairmen.
