AlThough noT used exTensively aT The beginning oT This year, This new corridor saw much more TraTTic when ouTside walks on The wesT side oT The wing and The ramp connecTing The 191450 Jw wing wiTh The norTh corridor were closed up by consTrucTion worlc. Une Tinal iob oT consTrucTion was The erecTion oT Two rooT shelTers over The wallcs Trom The ME. hall To The Music Build- ing, To permiT saTe passing beTween Those poinTs in bad weaTher. These shelTers connecT wiTh eiTher side oT The load- ing doclcs. The disappearance oT The Tower Building broughT along many changes in rooms. Two rooms in The Music Building were converTed To sTudy halls, buT There was sTill one less sTudy hall Than in pasT years. Due To lack oT space, Tri-Ship and Girls' Club sTudy halls were disconTinued Temporarily. lSecond semesTer, however, saw Girls Club sTudy hall res- umed.l The book sTore was moved To The basemenT oT The Music Building, The healTh oTTice was relocaTed in The ln- dusTrial ArTs secTion, and The Echoes oTTice Tound iTselT in a corner oT The Tield house, proving ThaT every spare inch oT space was uTilized ThroughouT The schooll The main norTh corridor soon became The social cenTeriT oT New Trier. Ground-breaking Tor The new addiTiOns occurred The week OT spring vacaTion, and by now The work is well under way. This main cOnsTrucTion work will cosT abOuT Three million dol- lars, wiTh all oTher auxiliary work, such as elecTriciTy, plumb- ing, heaTing, decoraTion and Turnishing cosTing anoTher Two WHIIK million. ParT OT This laTTer cOsT includes The enTire changing OT New Trier elecTrical and heaTing sysTems and some boiler- room addiTions, all OT which were cOmpleTed during April aT a cOsT OT S400,000. IT was necessary TO Tinish The iob OT remodeling These sysTems prior To The acTual building OT The new buiding, so ThaT elecTriciTy and heaT will be available Tor The new pOrTions OT The school when These are compleTed. ln The heaTing secTion, a more modern boiler was insTalled, which is raTed aT 45,000 pounds an hour. In coniuncTiOn wiTh The new boiler is a more eTTicienT coal handler To help in- crease The eTTiciency OT New Trier's heaTing planT. An im- porTanT change in The boiler roOm's waTer supply was The inclusion OT a new waTer-sOTTening uniT. Une more proiecT in This program was The enTire change OT elecTrical circuiTs Trom a Two-phase To a Three-phase sysTem. The enTire new building program will bring TO New Trier l-ligh School some OT The TinesT TaciliTies in The counTry. Our new audiTOrium will seaT almOsT Twice as many people as our Old one. The new memorial library will OTTer eguipmenT and space unequaled by any oTher library in The area. The new addiTiOn To The caTeTeria will seaT 400 more people Than does The lunch hall This year.
