The War Department, with the aid of the student body, undertook to sell enough bonds to purchase a B-29, thus setting a goal of S600,000. With the contribution of a Chicago corporation added to the 3895,776.75 which New Trier itself obtained, we came out with the startling sum of 8Bl,395,776.75 in thirteen days. In addition, the War Department has done a fine job on organization so that the students may huy war stamps each week in their advisor room. VAN DEURSEN HADDEN WEHR

Student Cvllncif ccomo Another of Council's big problems has been the cleaning up of the mess hall after the lunch pe- riods. By careful planning, a system was devised in which each table is assigned to certain students who are to see that it is kept clean. Although, the results are not perfect, definite progress has been made in the right direction. The honor system, contrived to decrease cheating, has been one of Council's biggest jobs. In this system each student signs his name and thus pledges himself not to cheat on exams. Combined with these important jobs, Council has sponsored the honor study halls which have now become a permanent part of New Trier. On the entertainment side has been the Hobby Show which was held on April 285 the pur- pose of this show is to interest others in hobbies and to give students a chance to exhibit outstand- ing collections. Very successful this year was the sale of Activity Ticketsg 9270 of the student body purchased these tickets this year. The contribu- tions of Student Council are of great value and their importance cannot be overestimated by those who are in any way associated with New Trier.
