Eighth Grade Tests We were very proud of our Eighth grade last year when the results of the Eighth Grade State Tests were announced. From our school Gary Walker placed seventh in Perry County, while Marilyn Wallace, Glenda Seyffert, Rita Jo Graham, Patsy Davis, Phyllis Jonas, Jon Sanborn, Leatha Proctor, and Ronnie Forsythe received Honorable Mention in the county. We know that they will continue to make New Straitsville High School and their parents proud of them throughout their four years in high school and later in life. State Scholarship Tests In the school year of 1951 a plan was revived--with some modifi- cations--in which representatives of our school went to the district meeting at Athens, Ohio, to compete with representatives of other schools of similar size. The competition was of a scholastic nature, in academic subjects presented in the educational program. The choice of contestants was determined by their standing in elimination tests, which- were furnished by the State Department of Education and presented in the class rooms., The students who rated first in Lhese tests, represented our school in the ioliowing subjects: Plane Geometry Robert Lloyd American History Ruth Burgess Algebra I Horma Jewett World History Charlene Nixon Algebra II Dorothy Angle General Science Lester Ambrose English IX Jean Angle Biology Richard Wade English X Sue Seyffert Bookkeeping Joy Babbs English XI Rita Forsythe Social Science Don Plumley English XII Marian Smith All of these students are to be commended, and the school is especial- ly proud of Ruth Burgess, who ranked eighth in the district in American History, Bob Lloyd, who was ninth in Plane Geometry, and Marian Smith, who took tenth place in English XII. It very much appreciates also, that because of Ruth's rating in the district in American History, it received Honorable Mention in the state.
