HISTORY OF SCHOOLS The first school house built in New Salisbury was an old log school house that stood on the present site of Cecil Keehn's residence on the south side of New Salisbury. Prior to 1867, seven school houses had been erected and schools established at different places in the order named: Byrneville No. lg Greenbrier No. 23 New Salisbury No. 35 Routh No. 4g Knowledge Box, South of Crandall No. 53 Hurstown No. 6, Crayden School near Ramsey No. 7. During the summer of 1875, Mr. John Isterling, Trustee, had a two room school house erected in the north end of New Salisbury, and aban- doned the old log school house at the south end and the one located near Kip' s Cave. In 1904, through the efforts of Silas Bringle, Clay Adams, Carter Byrn, Spencer Jenkins, and Charles N. Dome, a room was added to the two rooms that were built in 1875.
