Baseball Coach Richard Pullen was handicapped by a short training season and the lack of experienced boys. He had a small team consisting of: two Seniors, Connie Turner and James Sabens: two Juniors, James Wright and Jack French: two Sophomores: Jay Holsapple and Raymond Teague: and four Freshmen. who were Melvin Routh, Dale Houser, Freddie Harris, and Bill Largent. They completed their season with one victory and six defeats. The scores of the games follows: New Ross 0 Darlington I7 New Ross 7 Linden 5 New Ross 0 Bowers 17 New Ross 10 Alamo l8 New Ross 0 New Market 14 New Ross 1 Jackson 12 New Ross 3 Ladoga 18 Twp. Basketball The Blue Jays had a sixteen game schedule this season. This was the first year for the Blue Jays to play the Burros of Pittsboro. Due to the fact the Jays aren't playing Waveland this year the game was scheduled. The Blue Jays had several hard fought games in which the scores indicated that they were run-away games. Such as the games with Jackson Twp. and Darlington and the single encounters with Bowers, Dover, and Roachdale. New Ross was defeated seven and sixteen points in two contests with the Canners. one point by the Waynetown crew, five points by the Pittsboro and New Market quintet: ten points by Linden, seven by Alamo and four points by the Cardinals of New Richmond. On February 9, the Jays traveled over to Jamestown to visit the Blue Devils of North Salem. The game was nip and tuck all the way and the Blue Jays were- victorious by a score of 57 to 55. The Jays drew a bye in the County Tourney which found them with undefeated Waveland. The score of the contest was 54 to Z3 in favor of the Hornets, who went on to win the tourney by downing Linden in the final game. ln the Sectional Tourney the New Ross quintet played the Athenians of Craw- fordville. In the all over look at the Blue Jays they played about the best and toughest schedule of any team in the county this season. 31
