W'hen we entered New Rochelle High 'School pasifrightenedf sophomores, The Spirit was there to greet us andlassuage our fears. We were plagued with double sessions and con- struction, but with The Spirit's help we overcame our prob- lems. Our classmates gained honor, and our football team achieved an undefeated season. Three classes bound together as one, we emerged triumphant. Year after year The Spirit has led New Rochelle High School on to victory f there comes a time, however, when he must bid farewell to 'his old friends and prepare to welcome a new class. Now, The Spirit of New Rochelle High Schofoln waves good-by -to us, and so we say thank you for a successful and spirited thigh school career.

As we remember the years we have spent at New Rochelle High, the personality of our wonderful principal, Miss F. LORETTA CooNs, will always be foremost in our minds. We shall remember with love and respect her pride in our school, her devotion to every student, and her unparalleled leadership. Miss Coons has had extensive experience in the field of educa- tion. Her outstanding career indicates not only her ability but also her dedication to the educational system in New Rochelle. She was the assistant principal of Albert Leonard when it was a high school, and she was principal of Isaac Young junior High. For seven years she served as president of the Teachers' Club of New Rochelle. Miss Coons attended many institutions while pursuing her edu- cation. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the New York State College for Teachers, and she later received her Master of Arts degree at Boston University. To continue with graduate work, she attended New York University and the Teacherjs College of Colum- bia. Miss Coons, who is an ardent golfer and tennis player, has always recognized the value of physical education. Our class will ever be grateful for her enthusiastic support of our athletic teams. Her concern for their welfare and her pride in their victories have inspired the entire student body. Our principal has served us with knowledge and skill. She has never failed to infonn the students when a member has achieved a commendable honor. She has also guided us through our difficulties with a faithful, positive attitude. Each time she has spoken to the student body, she, has received an overwhelming response. Miss Coons has helped to mold our minds and our hearts. To express our gratitude to our beloved principal we, the class of 1961, dedicate this yearbook to her.
