ENGLISH IS . . Mrs. Alicia Miller Mr Dimitri Gloss English courses at New Prairie stressed the develop- ment of vocabulary, oral presentation and coherence in writing. Students practiced and accomplished these skills in the required English and Speech courses. Many students then applied this knowledge in Senior English and Creative Writing classes. Students have discov- ered that the person who is able to manipulate his language into a clear and concise form through the use of both grammatical and rhetorical techniques has found the key to communication. Bill Haselton A foreign language was not complete without a coinciding study of the country from which that lan- guage originated. French and Spanish instructors aid- ed students in the study of foreign cultures by using films, records, and also by relating personal exper- iences. Through the use of books and tapes; each student was allowed to proceed at his own pace in hope the person would thoroughly master the sen- tence structure, vocabulary, and pronunciation to the foreign language, 16

Mrs Debbie Varga What does Kathy see in sewing? 18 Cooking, sewing, caring for children, balancing a budget, and marriage are all a part of post high school life. Students who were enrolled in our Home Economics Department were well versed in these skills. Girls and guys alike took part in Single's and Family Living classes. These courses featured group discussion on topics such as abortion, living together, and child rearing. The highlight of the year came when a pseudo wedding ceremony was performed in class. This year Leanna Bush and Tom Jarka were joined in the bogus rites of matrimony, with Rick Siderits officiating.
