Broke againi Efficiency in accounting, speed in shorthand and typing, and coherent usage of the business language were a few of the many skills learned and perfected in business classes at New Prairie. Students, whether planning to major in business or preparing a complete background for college, chose from a variety of business courses. Classes were based on different branches of the Business World and offered beginning and advanced levels of learning. 15

ENGLISH IS . . Mrs. Alicia Miller Mr Dimitri Gloss English courses at New Prairie stressed the develop- ment of vocabulary, oral presentation and coherence in writing. Students practiced and accomplished these skills in the required English and Speech courses. Many students then applied this knowledge in Senior English and Creative Writing classes. Students have discov- ered that the person who is able to manipulate his language into a clear and concise form through the use of both grammatical and rhetorical techniques has found the key to communication. Bill Haselton A foreign language was not complete without a coinciding study of the country from which that lan- guage originated. French and Spanish instructors aid- ed students in the study of foreign cultures by using films, records, and also by relating personal exper- iences. Through the use of books and tapes; each student was allowed to proceed at his own pace in hope the person would thoroughly master the sen- tence structure, vocabulary, and pronunciation to the foreign language, 16
