CLASS HISTORY On August 31 1953 a mountarn chmblng expedttron of 49 members started w1th great enthusrasm to reach the top of the mountarn The trarl was wtde and easy to follow Leadtng the expedtuon were Larry Yoder Prestdent Don Crrpe Vrce Presrdent Tom Bowman Secretary Jamce Johns Treasurer Mr Allyn Dawson Sponsor and Mrs Ralph Garber Class Mother We stopped along the way on Octob er 20 to have a hayrtde and tn the second semester for a w1ener roast and ball game at the hrgh school By May we had reached the frrst plateau and safely passed the deep crevrces of brology and algebra As we started upward the tratl narrowed and we reached the terrrfytng precrprce of Latrn and geo merry But mth the leaders Tom Bowman Presrdent Denny Sorg Vtce Presrdent Bob l-lawktns Sec retary Jerry Whetten Treasurer and teachers to encourage us we conttnued on Mrs Gordon Melltn get was selected class mother John Brubaker Mary Ellen Burkholder Paul Carroll Jrm Drake fdecea sedj Esther Kuhns Joann Marttn Paul My ers and Verda Stutzman left the expedrtton and Elste Hersh berger Jotned us Htghllghts of thrs year were a football game a backwards party and recetvrng our class sweaters Thts part of our Journey ended very sadly when our sponsor Mr Daw son passed away Although the trarl roughened more as we began our thtrd clrmb we gathered courage and proceed ed Tom Bowman was agam elected Presrdent Denny Sorg Vrce Presrdent Sue Mellrnger Secretary and Jeanette Grngerrch Treasurer Mrs Mrmer and Mr Shtgley were elected our new sponsors Mrs Dewayne Johns was selected class mother Soon Mr Shrgley left us for a faster method of transportat ron the Arr Corps Mtssrng were Mrllard Brovant Dennrs Hamsher Qdeceasedj Elsre Hershberger An na Martrn Evelyn Mrller Dayld Ramer and Nancy Robrson We garned Jeanette Grngertch Janet Neff and Anna Stewart The magazrne sales campargn was our brg money makrng project Hrgh salesmen were Jamce Bowman and Jerry Whetten who recerved watches We had bake sales and the Juntor store also Nlear the end of the year we lost another frne teacher Mrs Utley who dted of a heart arlment In May we honored the class of 1956 mth Hrtch Your Wagon to a Star Thrs was a memorable occa ston as well as the play Seventeenth Summer Now we could see the peak of the mountarn rn a short trme we would reach our desttnatron Graduatronl Thrrd term Bowman was Presrdent Don Crlpe Vrce Presrdent Sue Mellmger Secretary and Janrce Johns Treasurer Mr Allen Mrller was elected co sponsor and Mrs George Thomas, class mother Jamce Bowman Jrm Boyer Bernard Cannon Raymond Hartman Bob l-Iawktns Jeanette Grng er1ch Merl Keck Karen Wrdup and Nancy Neff fell bestde the way So close and yet so far!
