This year, for the first time, the Drama Club is trying to produce two shows Thornton Wilder's play, our Town was performed in February and plans for a spring show began to be formulated then. Mrs. Ecton is presently advising the club, Amy Rowntree is President. Dina LaPolt is Vice-President, Jennifer Krajicek is Secretary, Kim Ackerson is Treasurer, and Lisa Channer is SAC representative The organization has had a few bake sales to raise money and more are on the way. NEW PALTZ HIGH SCHOOL presents THORTON WILDER S PLAY MARCHING BAND BOECES SPECIAL EDUCATION 72 The BOCES Special Education class has been a great success for all involved. Having the BOCES Special Education Department integrated with our school has allowed both the high school students and the special Education students to reap benefits that might otherwise be in-acessible. The special ed students have access to the library, the cafeteris, the gym, and the school grounds. This allows them to operate in a common school atmosphere. Though at times we may not realize it, we are both glad and lucky to have them. 73 The Art Club was refounded this year in order to revive an interest in fine arts that the high school has been missing for quite some time. With the extreme efforts of advisor Ilka List, trips to galleries and museums, and special after school demonstrations were made possible. These activities enabled students to increase their knowledge of visual art and also to explore perspective art careers. The Art Club also served as a means to impress upon students, faculty, and administration that fine art is an important and active ingredient of academics. Students that made important efforts in doing so were: Allsion Comer, Aline Ratau, Ronnie Knoth, Richard Heyl, Dan Stanley, Anne LeFevre. and Josie Blood-good. 74 SMOKING LOUNGE Pictured (1-0 Pam Deyoe. Joey Wetzel, and Billy Cahill the team got off to a fantastic start. However the Hugies suffered a few heartbreaking losses to key teams later in the season. Although the team came in 3rd place in the MHAL with a 6-4 record, the Hugies are always looking to improve their record. With the return of key players such as Matt and Mike Pisciotta, Jerry Grammas, Rob Whalen, Bill Houston and some key JV players the Hugies will again be in the ranks of the undefeated. J.V. There were many freshmen who showed their abilities while the sophmores proved theirs. Notable players were Sheila Feldman, the only girl on the team, and Ian Lintault and his pet “Moose”. 81 VARSITY SOCCER The Varsity Soccer team ended its season this year with a 3-11 record. Under second year coach Kevin Cothran, this young team developed and experienced all aspects of the game as the season progressed. This Year's team consisted of 2 freshmen, 1 soph-more, 9 juniors, and 6 seniors. Also included in this year's squad was Annell Presbie, the league's first and only girl to ever start for a boy's varsity team. The attitude among most of the players is much more positive for the '84 season with a chance at the MHAL title in mind. 82 PLAYERS POSITIONS R Bart F C Bert on© MF D. Bloch D J. This was an improvement over the year before when the team had many losses and few wins. All of the girls enjoyed themselves, especially when Coach Heidi Jewett treated them to ice cream at J.D.'s. 85 Although the New Paltz JV Volleyball team won only one game this year, they were a high spirited and closely knit team. The team consisted of Junior- Sandy Primm; Sophmore-Catherine Campbell; and Freshman- Thuy Bon-agura, Laurie Knoth, Lisa Scalzi, Soo Fackler, Stephanie Hochreiter and Jennifer Decker. Most of the games this year were close with a full three games played. This one win was against Fallsburg and helped to motivate the team for the games that followed. During the season the team practiced hard everyday but allowed for some fun during practice, which helped to make this year a very good one! BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY Pictured (top l-r) Joe Watson. T.J. The audience really loved the show; standing ovations were the norm. The performers made it look so easy, they make the show what it was. Thanks for a great job and all the fun it provided. THE DAY of ALL DAYS-That's what field day is. It is our annual kick off your shoes and let it all hang out day. On this day there are no enemies, no fights, only an abundance of friends. Instead of lectures and notes; music, games, and food fill up this day full of laughter. There is the tug-o'-war, the student-faculty baseball game, the sponge-throw, and so much more. And, when it's all said and done, it's a day of memories that will last a lifetime. SPRING CONCERT Last year's Spring Concert was one of the best given by the Music Department. Both the choir, under the direction of Mrs. Bagley and the band, under the direction of Mr. Grassel, gave outstanding performances Both classical and contemporary pieces were represented in the concert. The Jazz ensamble, organized by Mr. Grassel, also gave a great performance. Mrs. Bagley's talented Chamber singers gave the audience an unforgettable performance. In all, it was a concert unsurpassed in quality. 133 Each year French IV students prepare a french dinner. The students decide what they would like to eat. They spend one day preparing all the food. On the second day all last minute details are done and finally everyone sits down to their well-deserved meal, this class feasted on onion soup, quiche, coq au vin, and crepes.
