Helhoski OUR PLEDGE TO YOU The Guidance Department of New Paltz High School recognizes that each student is an individual with different backgrounds, skills, motivations, and aspirations. It strives to help each individual to know himself better and to provide adequate information so that each may guide himself. We also wish to provide counseling services which are directed toward curricular, extra-curricular and personal problems so that each may enjoy to its fullest their secondary school experiences. It further strives to be active members of the educational team and relate the needs of students relative to educational, social, and career experiences so that education may be total and relevant to the needs of the students whom it serves. Mrs. Marjorie Ackert OPTION II CAREER EXPLORATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE The Option II service learning experience permits students to earn units of credits through career exploration, community service or work study programs which use community agencies and resources to enhance the educational experience. Students may select a placement for their service-learning experience based upon individual personal needs and career goals. Through actual involvement in the businesses and social service program of the community, students are able to develop pride in themselves and self-confidence while reducing misconceptions about people who may be different in appearance, age or background. They will also have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of career choices, provide the community with a viable source of volunteer services and be able to interact with adults in a positive and constructive way. is
