SAC Youth in Government gives high school students a chance to learn the workings of our government. There are 2 parties, United and Freedom. The parties meet to hold platform conventions nominating coventions, then elections are held. Eric Rhien is the United party nominee for Ulster county treasurer. Under President Paul Meltzer the SGA started the Council of Councils, ratified an amended version of the Constitution and has been involved in various Fund-raising activities. Under the new constitution any student may attend any SGA meeting and may vote for certain things. Past activities of the SGA have been the addition of the smoking lounge, the great race and various assemblies including the Phil Stein, Mike Badalucco Vaudeville Review. This year as in past years the SGA will award a number of scholarships for English, Math, Film, school community service and environmental activities. 10

Rebecca Hillestad, Rudi Sonneson and Judy Haynes. A.F.S. is in its sixth year. It is a group that sponsors students from other countries to visit the U.S. and for U.S. students to see other countries. New Paltz has hosted students from many countries; France, Sweden, and Argentina to name a few. This year our student is Rudi from Denmark. In 1976 Judy Hanes went to Turkey. Becky Hillestad went to California on a domestic exchange. 12
