HUGUENOT 1971 presented by The Class of 1971 New Paltz Central High School New Paltz, New York Table of Pupil Personnel Services 24 Contents 3 Advertisements 125 4 New Paltz Central High School New Paltz, New York Board of 6 MRS. ANDREW BIVONA MR. JOSEPH FOI.EY Education DR. JOHN H. HAIN REV. PAUL R. MERTZLUFFT MR. FRANK HAMILTON. Clerk of the Board MRS. RICHARD ORDWAY 7 MR. WALTER PARADIES MR. ROBERT REID A Message From the Board of Education Upon the occasion of your graduation from New Paltz High School it is my privilege to extend to you the congratulations of the Board of Education. Graduation from high school is a significant point of departure in the life of a young person. To a greater degree than any other event it provides a dividing line between youth and adulthood. Because of this, a nostalgia will ever be associated with your high school years. You have compiled an excellent record in the last four years. In scholarship, in athletics, in dramatics, and in music your class has been outstanding. You as individuals have benefited from these activities; your achievements will stand as an inspiration to those who follow you. Sincerely, Donald B. Martin, President Board of Education 8 A dministration MR. FREDERICK C. DIPPEL Supervising Principal MR. JOHN L. WYMAN High School Principal MR. FRANK A. HAMILTON Business Administrator MR. THEODORE SIRKO Assistant Principal 9 A Message From the Supervising Principal As you approach the close of your career here at New Paltz Central School and prepare this book to help you cherish the memories of the years spent within its walls 1 am sure you look hack with pride on what you have accomplished. I hope you Vill view your years here as hut a preparation for the adult life you are about to enter and that you will be a better American because of the training you have received during those years. You will meet many new problems in the new life you are about to enter and many new experiences will he yours. I hope that because of the days you spent at the New Paltz Central School you w ill he better equipped to meet these problems and enjoy these new experiences. I congratulate you on your fine record. I am sure that the teachers and the Board of Education share my feelings when I wish you a life filled with success, health, and happiness. to Frederick C. Dippel Supervising Principal A Message From the Principal One of the ingredients of today’s society is change. As I reflect on the four years of the Class of 1971 it is realized how rapid this change has been and how rapidly it is accelerating. You have witnessed three moon landings in less than two years. Ones imagination can run wild on what science technology will bring in space exploration during the next decade. Locally change has also taken place. At the beginning of your Sophomore year you moved into our new facility. Curriculum changes have added semester courses in Anthropology, Black Culture, Contemporary Affairs, Personal Notehand and World Religions. The Humanities Seminar Day, planned and executed by Seniors, changed a typical day in school. Many of you have also been members of the following committees: American Field Service, Earth, Drug Abuse, and Five Year Plan. I commend you for your contributions to these committees which ultimately will result in change. With the change in the voting age to eighteen you will have an earlier voice in decisions that are made. It is my sincere hope that the experiences here at High School have assisted you in making intelligent decisions for the kind of world you want. John L. Wyman High School Principal 11 Faculty MR. President; Judi Scott, Vice-President; Alvita Roberts, Treasurer; and Ralph Andra-dez, Secretary. In our sophomore year our determination turned into ambition, nothing could put us down! We were high spirited and jovial, happily sneering at the new freshmen. We couldn't have been prouder when the Baseball Team won the UCAL Championship. Our trip to Washington was nothing less than great and we proved that we could be responsible young adults. We were growing up. Our Sophomore Hop This Side of Heaven,” was a success and proved to be worth all the hard work we had put into it. Confronted with hard work in our junior year, we overcame all obstacles. We were the first class to get our class rings in the fall of our junior year. A lot of time and effort was put into our Junior Prom and A Time For Us was a perfect theme. Finals and the dream of being seniors lurked in our minds as we neared the end of our junior year. As seniors we have laughed together, cried together, worked and played together, but now the time has come when we each must go our own separate wav. We will always remember the good times we have had and try not to forget the bad times because they too should be part of our memories. The members of the Class of 71 must start a new life but the Spirit of 71 w ill remain in each of our hearts forever! 60 62 63 65 66 — i 1 67 68 UNDER CL A SSMEN 69 CLASS OFFICERS (left to right) L. The new day promises, A wish for luck and we’re on our way. We’ve only just begun. Before the rising sun we fly. So many roads to choose. We start out walking and learn to run. And yes, we’ve just begun. Sharing horizons that are new to us. Watching the signs along the way, Talking it over just the two of us. Working together day to day, together. And when the evening comes we smile. So much of life ahead, We’ll find a place where there’s room to grow. And yes, we’ve just begun! 150 W’ords by Paul Williams Autographs 151 Autographs 152 TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY l WwM l bl ''••‘book A l yloi «• '
