Mertzlufft Mrs. Richard Ordway Mr. Robert Reid A Message From the Board of Education The Board of Education has watched with pride the development of the Class of 1970. Although not in as close contact with your everyday school life as are your teachers and the administration we nevertheless follow your activities very closely. As you leave our school and enter college or the world of business we want you to know that we will continue to follow your accomplishments and to say with pride when you attain some distinction, He was one of our former students.” You go out into a challenging world. We hope that we have helped to give you the tools that will enable vou to meet that challenge. 8 MR. FREDERICK C. DIPPEL, Supervising Principal MR. FRANK A. HAMILTON, Business Administrator 9 A Message From the Supervising Principal The Class of 1970 has made a wise decision in choosing as its theme for this book I he Challenge of the Seventies.” Many challenges have been met during the past decade. We have put a man on the moon and learned to transplant vital organs from one body to another, but many more challenges remain to be met during the seventies. The task of meeting these challenges in the years ahead will rest largely on your shoulders. My hope is that the years that you have spent here at New Paltz have made you better able to meet the new problems and new' experiences with which you will be faced. 1 congratulate you on your fine record, and as the history of the future is written, I am sure that it will be a history more to be proud of because of vour deeds. I am sure that the entire school staff and the Board of Education share my feelings when I wish you success and a future filled with happiness. 10 Frederick C. Dippel Supervising Principal A Message From the Principal As this is written we are entering not only a new year but also a new decade. Problems of peace, poverty, population and pollution confront us. Their solution will determine the destiny of man during the twenty-first century. Your generation is certainly more aware and more concerned with these problems than any previous generation. Your challenge is to find new solutions to these problems. It is hoped that your days in high school have given you the foundation on which to build. The Editor of the 1970 Huguenot has done a commendable job. Her maturity, intelligence and industry are responsible for this fine publication. You will probably appreciate her efforts more in the years to come. I am sure I speak for the faculty as well as myself when I offer our congratulations and best wishes for a successful future. II John L. Wyman High School Principal MR. JOHN L. Busy with homework, we enjoyed some lighter moments listening to Bill Cosby records! The spirit went on . . . SOPHOMORES As sophomores we worked hard on our successful hop, Aurora Borealis. We were continually busy with homework and activities. You could always spot us in the halls passing those bio notes! JUNIORS When we entered the new school, we elected class officers and began the year with a successful dance, Goin Out of My Head.” Class rings arrived and we felt a sense of class unity. Much planning and hard work resulted in Once Upon a Dream,” the most beautiful Prom ever! We were ecstatic when our great baseball team won the UCAL Championship. 4 SENIORS As seniors we were always busy with term papers or yearbook deadlines. As a class, we enjoyed a trip to New York Citv and a beautiful Senior Ball. We filled out college and job applications and began to look to the future. As we walk through the floral arches, we wonder where all those years went. We realize how wonderful the years were that we spent together, and we are sure that the Spirit of 70” will never die! 55 Junior Prom Queen Maureen and King Paul in their royal splendor. THE NEW PALTZ TEACHERS’ ASSOCIA TION Love’s fires are lit and never grow dim. A place where the children may always know' That they with their pleasures and troubles may go. The place may be small with scanty board, Or rich w'ith the wealth of Croesus stored. It matters not u'here the house may sit, For the home is just what we make of it. Help your child build a memory chest Where all that is noble, all that is best, Can be stored away for the time when he Needs help and guidance away from thee . . . Some time when he needs must stand alone, When no longer little, not yet hardly grown . . . When back to his memory chest he'll go, And find there the things that he needs to know. Teach him these truths lest he should fall: That a loving Father is over all; There’s a time and a place for everything, And virtue its own reward will bring; That if he the flames of kindness w'ould fan He must live in peace with his fellowman; That life must be lived both clean and pure. And God will take care of the rest, I am sure. Matthew A. Fairweather ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR New Paltz, New York Compliments of A. W. PARADIES, LOUIS SMITH INC. CHEVROLET INC.
