HUGUENOT ’68 Published by the Class of 1968 New Paltz Central High School New Paltz, New York I have seen the quiet loneliness of the school when the students weren’t there ... and suddenly the halls rang with the sound of voices ... I have seen the ivy scale these walls until the walls have become completely covered. These hallowed halls have weathered many a footstep through the years. It is to this school that these pages are dedicated. This senior class of 1968 will be the final class to graduate from the original New Paltz High School.” 3 te, tuf) §||j taur ars ataab ,£fjat( mrpkammy fco, c Table of Contents Administration and Teachers.........6 Seniors............................21 Classes............................56 Activities.........................70 Senior Directory..................101 Middle School.....................108 A dvertisements...................117 MR. As a camera, I have seen these halls empty and silent; I have seen them suddenly filled with the laughter and chatter of students passing from class to class. I have seen the Class of ’68 grow and mature into young and independent adults. The following pages will relate my story of the high school years of the Class of ’68. 43 SOPHOMORES I have seen them as Sophomores a little more assured and educated about their lives. The class had unity and was self-sufficient. Their sophomore hop was a success. There was also the Washington trip —seeing the Capitol, climbing the Washington monument, learning our nation’s government. They had fun that year but there was also a lot of work and they still had a long way to go. FRESHMEN As a school camera I have seen the '68 seniors as shy freshmen, laughing and giggling in the halls, wondering if they would ever become as big as the upperclassmen. They were timid, small, and unsure of the future, yet happy and contented. They were the first freshman class to finance and sponsor their own dance. They showed great promise but they weren't ready for the future. JUNIORS I have seen them as Juniors. They began to realize what was ahead and took responsibility into their own hands. Fully accustomed to school life, they started thinking of bigger and better things. They worked hard to make their Junior Prom Southern Enchantment” the best ever. And it was! This was the hardest year and homework never seemed to let SENIORS I have seen these seniors in their peak of glory. They looked back and wondered how they ever made it so quickly. They were ready to face the world. This senior class of 1968 set the example to all other classes, with no one on the ineligibility list and a high percentage of students on the honor roll. There was a feeling of sadness, for they knew it was their last year and although they hated to admit it, school was really great! The King Dana Otis and his Queen Anne Tenaglia with their attendants. Attendants: Stephanie Weston, Linda Ashton, JoAnne McElhenney, Ann Archard, Carol Ann Corwin, Karin Hansen, Tina Marks, Maureen Levy. Southern Enchantment”, was one of the most beautiful and successful proms ever held in the history of the New Paltz Central School. Its success was due to the great support given to it by the Class of ’68. 46 Bonnie works on the southern sunset of brilliant colors. Go Carol, go! We were always hard at work It was truly something always to remember. Give me the patience of the silent stars; give me a sense of humor. Help me to win them through love instead of compelling them through fear; Help me to teach them that every home is an altar and that every wish is a prayer. Help me to live my own life above doubt and skepticism; Help me to radiate faith in the basic goodness of life; Help me to keep the ideals of youth aglow in my own life. Give me the strong hand for guidance when youth falters and would turn back; Help me to teach them to live bravely and to meet defeat courageously; Help me to teach them that a man’s real character is what he is, alone with himself in the dark. Help me to teach them that the value of their lives will be measured by the service they give. Help me to teach them that true happiness is found, not in things, but in the unfolding of their minds and their souls.
