Dippel Supervising Principal The class of 1958 is to he congratulated on their choice of a theme for this their yearbook. The Shawangunk Mountains are trulv a fitting symbol for us to use in our lives as they tower majestically above the surrounding landscape and command the admiration and respect of all those who behold them. As you leave New Paltz Central School and enter into adult life 1 feel sure that you too, will tower above those around you and hv your actions and accomplishments earn the respect and admiration of your fellow man. I am sure that I speak for the faculty and the Board of Education as well as for myself when I wish you success and a future filled with happiness. tration Mr. Raymond Buckley Assistant Principal Mathematics 5 UL Full well 1 love thee in the winter days. At noonday rising pale through sunny haze A symphony in pearl — a jewel rare. Bewitching are the charms 1 find when hare And rugged stretch thy woods and meadows hlcak— To find them one would scarcely need to seek. Marine and turquoise are the changing blues Which paint thy sides with such entrancing hues At twilight hour when daylight softly dies. And palest amber curtains drape the skies. A mystery when on a winter’s night December’s moon overflows with ghostly light. A distant dream thou seemest then to he Of faintest blue within a dark blue sea. When winter winds have stripped thy every part, 1 love thee, for 1 know thee as thou art. .. . John Wright Follette We the graduating class of 1958 have chosen the Shawangunk Mountains as our theme for the yearbook. Most of us have grown up with them as companions. They have been a source of wonder to us as small children and are a source of beauty and strength now. We have roamed their wooded hills and watched as our reflected images in their crystal pools changed over the years. Should we never return to these mountains, we shall always remember the Shawangunks and the memories that they represent. We had no idea as to what was about to befall us and felt very lost in such a large place. Soon, however, we began to make a history of our own, gaining momentum with every day. The first noteworthy thing that we did was to win an ice cream party and $25 for second place in the annual Magazine Drive. That year, our class officers were as follows: Janis Shand — President, Janet Shand — Vice President, Elaine Keator — Sec.-Treasurer. We began our Sophomore year with a double victory. First, we won the annual Class Field Day. Then, we added $50 to our treasury by selling the most magazines in the Magazine Drive. Our Sophomore dance, Harvest Moon, was a huge success, showing that we knew how to sponsor good dances. For our officers that year, we elected Janis Shand as President, Joan Bugar as Vice President and Kathy Vett as Sec.-Treasurer. Our Sophomore Hop, “Harvest Moon was a huge success. Floyd Diedolf is our star athlete — here he is in our first game. Here ive are uorking on the yearbook in one of our leisure moments. Bv the time we were Juniors, we had already established our place in the school. We began the year by electing Janis Shand as President, Janet Shand as Viee President and Floyd Diedolf as Sec.-Treasurer. For the second time, wc won the jug, showing conclusively, that our athletic prowess was invincible. Our class chose their class rings with excellent taste this year. Our Junior Prom, too, was a great success, not deviating for one moment from our great tradition. This year, we became Seniors with very few casualties. For the third time, we won the jug with an overwhelming victory. We elected Janis Shand as President, Bill Cotton as Vice President, and Liz Davis as Sec.-Treasurer for our class officers. This year was really wonderful with all of the exciting things — such as the Senior Play, the yearbook, and our Senior Ball. As when we first came, we are a little curious and apprehensive as to what the future holds in store for us. 30 DID MOST FOR CLASS Elaine and Bill Who’s CUTEST Joan and Walter TEACHER'S PET AND PEST Joan and Merwyn MOST ATHLETIC Audrey and Bob CLASS CUT UPS BIGGEST I'LI RTS Doris and Greg Janet and Dick 31 BEST LOOKING Ann and Floyd PEPPIEST AND LAZIEST Laurie and Eddie MOST POPULAR Elaine and Dave 2 BEST personality Margaret and Bill Who BEST DRESSED Joan and Ralph MOST TALKATIVE Esther and John 1959 Class Officers B. They are: Wendell Harp, President; Karl Moehrke, ice President; and Carol Decker, Secretary-Treasurer. We were not as successful in the Inter-Class Track Meet as we had hoped to be, hut we kept our spirits up by peppy sideline cheering. This spring, we sponsored the annual Junior Prom which was one of the highlights of this year’s social functions. We elected John Babb, President; Herb Lehmann, Vice President; and Judy Zimmerman, Secretary-Treasurer. With them as our Student Council representatives, we got hack in the swing of school life. We did very well in the Inter-Class Track Meet hut those inevitable Seniors edged into first place to win the ‘‘Brown Jug” again. Our hopes are high for next year, though. Our Sophomore Hop, “Silhouettes”, drew a large crowd who enjoyed the dance. The entertainment was very well presented with a wide variety of talent. Ending a successful year, we look forward to our Junior and Senior years with great anticipation. 1960 G. Majestic M. Mandia N. Marks E. Marx R. Myrtle D. Nace C. Neal R. Nelson R. Nostrand Q. About the third week of school the elections for class officers were held in the gym. Our President is James Vanderhurg, Vice President is Bitty Glancy, and Secretary-Treasurer is Janet Kurtz. The annual track meet was won this year by the Seniors who have won the meet as Sophomores and Juniors. This was the first time it was won three years in a row by the same class. Other records were broken such as the Seventh Grade beating the Eighth, and the Freshman Class accumulating more points than they have done in past years. 39 1961 P. Majestic H. Mansfield A. The routine requires each child to take care of his personal needs and belongings such as tying his shoes. Each child is helped to develop coordination required to cut, paste, draw, paint, and write. Good work habits are started by learning to follow directions and working by themselves in the group. Reading skills and number concepts are developed in recognition and association of objects and words. 79 m.' ■ it .a n n k Ik k K feaL ■mm ik Fi'rsl Row, left to right: C. Barkley, R. Hoppenstedt, L.
