Q fi 221 The Class of 1951 started off the 1949-50 school year with forty-two members who elected as ,their leaders for the coming year: William Rhinefhart, President, Iohn Tizio, Vice- President and Anita Angerman, Secretary- Treasurerf That our abilities are recognized by the entire studept body yvas proved to us by the plelction of George McCabe as Vice-Presi- dent of the ,Student Council. I The spirit of the Class was first indicated by fqthe ann al magazine drive which saw our room ifinislva lose second plate to Mr. l..uczai's room. The Christmas season also gave proof of the enthusiasm of the class, when under the leadership of Earl Slater, our artist, We cap- tured first place in room decoration with our theme of Christmas Carols . For our efforts in this contest we were given a party by the Student Council on December Zl. Our class was well represented in the many school activities with members on the Varsity and Iunior Varsity teams, the cheerleaders, and all music activities. The social activities of the year were high- lighted by the Iunior Prom, which proved to be a great success. Much of the credit for the success of our class this school year belongs to Mr. McKenna, our class advisor, Whose unending effort has done much to help us accomplish what We have. We are looking forward to our senior year and hope that it will be as successful as the one we have enjoyed this year. The Class of l952 has always been a busy one. Last Fall we stepped into our Sophomore Year with our customary vigor. Two of our classmates ran for office in the Student Coun- cil As the returns came in we learned that one of the candidates, Robert Sutton, had succeeded in gaining the office of Treasurer. Soon after the Student Council elections Iohn Grey was elected class president by a popular vote of the class. Other officers elected at this time were Donald McCabe, Vice-Presi- dent and Vivian Schiro, Secretary-Treasurer. The Sophomore Hop gave us our first oppor- tunity to sponsor a social affair. With the theme Harvest Moon we ushered in the Thanksgiving holidays. While we were still Freshmen two of our girls made the cheerleading squad and these two, Dona Beattie and Denise Burke, began cheerleading at the opening of the football season. As basketball season rolled around Coach Iohnson found that he had many candidates. The opening game found several boys of the Class of 1952 represented on the New Paltz team. Our interests are as varied as the people in the class. Several of us are horse-lovers, many like sports. One of our students has artistic tal- ents and another is fascinated by travel. Still others are held spellbound by the thought of footlights while some would prefer a camera and a flash holder to anything else. Because of these varied interests you will find a Sopho- more in almost any club or school activity. Front Row, Left ot Right: Mr. W. Luczai, E. Wolf, D Slater, I Grant, A Countryman, M. Iohnson, L. We knew a little of what was to come because we had been taken through the school and introduced to all the teachers in the spring. At that time Mrs. lgou, then the Guidance teacher, helped us greatly in deciding what courses we should take. We are fast becoming acquainted with our new surroundings and already three of our classmates are representatives to the Student Council. Our class leaders stepped forth when we elected Margaret Lueken as President, George Millham as Vice-President, and Barbara Misner cs Secretary-Treasurer. Wanting to become a part of the high school as soon as possible many of us joined the music organizations and clubs. We found that we had a wide field of extra-curricular ac- tivities to choose from. So far the male members of our class have their own basketball team and a few of them cre already on the Iunior-Varsity Basketball team. Many of our girls are aspiring to be future cheer-leaders. The first year is always the hardest, but un- der the guidance of our two advisors, Mrs. La Falce and Mrs. McKenna, the task of getting acquainted with our new life in high school was made much easier. We are looking for- ward to our Sophomore year with the hope of bettering our school and our class. Y O if v N034 wfL4rp .,. ty- ,.wwM Left to Right, Front Row: I. Locascio, R. Heroy, D. Iennings. The Thespian Sorority started this year roll- ing by installing eleven new members at an informal ceremony in the form of a picnic and then again at an impressive formal initiation. After things had resumed their normal tempo, We found that the first major item on our agenda was a Christmas Party. 'Mid a festive Yuletide setting, our members, escorts, and friends enjoyed an evening of dancing and fun. As this goes to press, We are busy plan- ning our biggest social event of the year, The Checkerboard Cafe. Committees have been formed and already we are anticipating an- other successful dance. Plans are also in the making for a play to be given in the spring in which all of us Will have a chance to display our theatrical talents. To our advisor, Mrs. Mary Ellen La Falce, We offer our thanks and appreciation for her helpful guidance throughout the year.
