GARDINER Mrs. Vira Atkins Mrs. Janet Bracken U I O O -I to Junior Class F reshmen President—B. Rhinehart Vice-President—]. Tizio Treasurer—A. Angerman Secretary—J. JANSEN The Seniors of 1951 are already in almost every activity for which they are eligible. We shine in courses from Art to Science, and activities from Junior Varsity to Nepa-Hi-Lites. We also have a few outstanding characters, the new look, the cheerleader, the basketball players (J.V.) the mathematician, the bow tie, and numerous enthusiastic musicians. At games, you will find us in the front row yelling at the top of our lungs to support our team. We certainly (though we don't even try) give the teachers plenty of reason to read their psychology books, but we as a whole say that the new kids are enjoying their freshman year, and are looking forward to being sophomores. Sophomore Class t32] Juniors President—Elwyn Harp Vice-President—Sadie Penzato Treasurer—Ann van Winkle Secretary—Marie Di Lorenzo At long last we, the Class of 1949, find ourselves Juniors and nearly at the end of our high school career. We are in many activities including orchestra, band and many of the new clubs. We are proud to say that the Junior Class is well represented in the athletic department, having members on the football, basketball and baseball teams. The long established custom of having the Junior Prom fell to us this year. We enjoyed planning for it and it was a huge success. Freshman Class Sophomores President C. Taylor Vice-President—J. Jansen Secretary—G. Fellows Treasurer—A. DEARNLEY The building seemed strange to us in September, after a long summer vacation, but we quickly became readjusted and made ourselves feel right at home again. Our class had a big advantage over previous Sophomore classes in that we had attended this school as Freshmen. In November we showed our ability to work together as a class by sponsoring a successful Sophomore Hop. Our class was well represented on all the teams and in Journalism, Band, Orchestra and other activities. [33] Athletics Football 1947-1948 With the turning of the leaves and the coming of fall. Coach Larry Johnson, posted his first gridiron call.’' The turnout was large and eager. The molding of a squad began right away. J. V. Basketball '47-'48 The J.V.'s started off this year with one veteran out of seventeen (17) members. Coach Johnson gave the boys a lot of practice and later in the season his work began to show. The squad showed some promising athletes who will play varsity ball in the years to come. Coach Johnson also developed a complete team of Freshmen boys. Track 1947-1948 Once again the boys of the winged feet gave a great account of themselves on the cinders. The small squad had far too much power for the league teams, and almost won the section crown at West Point, losing by only two points. After a dav of informal initiation the new members were formally accepted at an impressive ceremony. We were very happy that Miss Finnigan would be our advisor. Members of both sororities enjoyed an inter-sorority Christmas party. The Thespians put on an original play and later presented it to the school in the Christmas Assembly. As this goes to press we are planning a joint sorority dance to be given in April. We hope it will be the Sororities' high-light of the year. The Senior members are planning to attend a Broadway play in New York in the Spring. Our thanks to Miss Finnigan for her understanding, helpfulness, and cooperation. [42] In loyalty and splendor, with hearts forever true Sorority we render our greatest love to you. The school year began with the selection of new sorority members. Once chosen, they were garbed in a ridiculous array of costumes and put through the agony of informal initiation. Formal initiation was a happy affair for all and the pledgees became true sisters of the O.M.N. The group took part in sponsoring an inter-sorority program at Christmas. Spring found them looking forward to an O.M.N.-Thespian dance. Both the team and sorority members were pleased with the outcome of the buffet dinner given in honor of the basketball teams. The members of this group provided the music in various school entertainments and did a grand job. A string group from the Orchestra played at the Senior Play. The Girls Glee Club, composed of thirty members, was represented in the Nyack Festival. They acted as hostesses to the Newburgh Acappella Choir, and took part in the annual May Festival. The Boys Glee Club consists of seven boys who enjoyed singing together. They performed at a Parents' Night program. These musical groups were conducted under the able direction of Miss Amy L.
