What they lacked in size, they made up in fight and spirit. Because of the lack of transportation, the number of games was cut considerably; but the team went through the schedule and was a credit to the Maroon and White. VARSITY BASKETBALL This year’s team showed some real action on the court. The height of the boys was a great deal more advantageous than it had been in previous years. However hampered by the lack of transportation and by the departure of John Martin and Edward Burke for the service of our country, Coach Wood arranged to play six games. CHEERLEADERS These are our peppy Cheerleaders who have kept up our school spirit during the brief basketball season. They started the season off with a Pep Rally, before our first big game. It was at this time that two new cheerleaders, Olga Taraduck and Teresa Hanley, made their first appearance beside our two “regulars,” Lois Tamney, Captain, and Joan Hanley. Despite transportation difficulties, the cheerleaders were present at as many games as possible to lead us in our cheers for victory. RIFLE CLUB Here on our rifle range, we have found a sport that is real fun, that is worth while, and a hobby we can enjoy throughout life. Our club has a charter from the National Rifle Association, Washington, D. C. All our members become junior riflemen and can compete for rating medals from the War Department and the N. R. A., as well as participate in postal matches with Junior Rifle Clubs all over the U. S. A. Good marksmen are made, not born; and the shooting experience gained by many of our former members now in the armed forces is paving real dividends. Members R. Heroy R. Dorr E. McGrath H. Moran J. BASEBALL The baseball team of 1942 was one to be proud of. It went through a short but tough schedule with a record of 5 victories and 4 defeats. Many bad breaks hindered it from making a better record and possibly the championship. In the NUSO League, the team had a record of 3 wins and 3 losses, claiming third place.
