SENIOR PLAY With superstition boldly staring them in the face, the members of the Senior Play, “The Charm School,” awaited the opening of the curtain somewhat nervously on Friday, the thirteenth. Finally the curtain went up, and the play began. Joe Castellana, in the role of Austin Bevans, found he had inherited a school for girls, much to the delight of his bachelor friends. Upon taking over the management of the school, Austin made a rule that not one of the girls could be alone with any of the teachers, his friends, at any time. Virginia Locascio, as Elise Benedotti, broke the rule several times, ending up with a near tragedy for her, followed by a declaration of her love for Austin. After much ado, they settled the awkward situation. Connie Pedersen and Herbert Coon, without the aid of the ever-ready-to-help Miss Curtis, really Violet Cuthbert, provided a second love affair between Miss Hays, the beloved teacher, and Homer Johns, Elise’s uncle and the former husband of Miss Hays. With the help of the supporting cast, the silent players back-stage, and the never-failing help of Mrs. Switzer, “The Charm School” became a success for the Class of ’43.

THE THESPIANS The Thespians is a newly organized club which came into existence last year under the guidance of Mrs. Anne Blownstine. Our first set of officers were as follows: President, Virginia Locascio; Vice-President, Leora Ellis; Secretary, Eloise Eifert; Treasurer, Frances Sinagra. During our first year, we held a tea for the teachers and a successful play, “The Teeth of the Gift Horse.” During our second year, led by President. Joan Alverson; Vice-President, Rose Marie Strada; Secretary, Violet Cuthbert; and Treasurer, Geraldine Scott, we admitted new members, held a successful turkey raffle, presented an amusing “Truth or Consequences” game in assembly, introduced “Curse You, Jack Dalton,” an old-fashioned melodrama, and met the O. M. N. in an exciting basketball game. Our activities for this year are by no means concluded. We are looking forward to more assembly programs and another tea for the teachers. Our thanks go to Miss Rice, this year’s advisor, for her endless assistance to us, and to Alfred Schreiber, Dick Heroy, and Noel Pettingell, who aided us in the presentation of our second play.
