iU55x3f N ULHSS HISTUHU gl BHLEHDHH On September 19 1942 twenty four scared curlous eager ch11dren assembled for the1r f1rst day of school at New Palestlne School E1ght of whom have remalned together are Georg1a Barnard Carolyn Bowles Danny Davldson Sh1rley Johnson Ruth Ann Rosenbaum Lula Sleeth Raymond Means and Joan Vahle Janett Settles and Bett1e Matt1ngly were also w1th us 1n the f1rst grade but Janett Settles left us 1n the second grade to go to Moral but rejolned us ID the slxth grade Bett1e was w1th us for the f1rst s1x years but left to go to varxous schools unt1l she was a Jun1or As we entered our freshman year we ga1ned f1ve new students They were John Brown from Morrlstown Beulah True from Mt Comfort Maryellen Folken 1ng Vern1ce Mearl1ne and Phylhs Kle1man from the Z1on's Lutheran School Don Utt was our pres1dent B111 Morrlson our v1ce pres1dent Shlrley Johnson our treasurer and Janett Settles our secretary Our total enrollment ln our freshman year was th1rty three Jerry Gr1ssom came to us 1n our sophomore year from Maxwell Vern1ce Mear l1ng was our pres1dent Cece1l1a Lease our v1ce pres1dent Shxrley Johnson was a member of the cheerleadxng group 1n that year L1nton and R1chard Poulos from Eden came to New Palestlne H1gh Bett1e Mat tlngly reJo1ned us after attendlng other schools for f1ve years B111 Carter was our pres1dent Don Utt our v1ce pres1dent Vern1ce Mearllng our treasurer and Mary Bundy our secretary Shlrley Johnson was a cheerleader agaln that year Wlth a new classmate Charlotte Clark from Bloomlngdale we came to our clos1ng year at good old N P H S Danny Dav1dson was our pres1dent B111 Carter our v1ce pres1dent Sue Holden our treasurer and Mary Bundy our secretary Our total enrollment for our semor year was thrrty two On September 15 we senlors boarded a bus and went to Porter's Natlonal Stud1o 1n Indlanapolls to have our sen1or p1ctures taken On September 17 the cheerlead rs tr1ed out and Bett1e Mattlngly along w1th two others recelved the honor The next day the freshmen obed1ently bowed down and honored the ALMIGHTY SENIORS at the 1n1t1at1on That even1ng we honored them at the all school party October 10 was h1gh school day at Indlana Un1vers1ty the senlors saw lndlana beat Marquette by one po1nt We were let out of school on October Z2 Z3 for the Indlana Teachers Assoc1at1on meetmg Phyllls P1ke and Joe Herron SENIORS were crowned k1ng and queen at the school carn1val October 2.7 On November 14 four of the sen1or g1rls attended the Sunsh1ne Soclety D1str1ct Convent1on at Trafalgar 1nd1ana On November 13 the New Pale st1ne Dragons showed good teamwork agamst St Paul for our f1rst basketball game even though we lost by n1ne po1nts We were d1sm1ssed for two days for Thanksg1v1ng Vacat1on November 26 and 27 The all school Chr1stmas program w1th treats by cornmun1ty c1v1c clubs was g1ven December 17 1n the school gym So that we all could have a very merry Chrlstmas we we re let out for ten days December Z4 to January 4 for Chr1strnas vacat1on 18 ' 3 of' X N1 00-, gg: f 9 ': is Q 2 Q ' f My A J 7 ' J l n l I I D ! Last night in the gym of good ol' NPHS the class of 54 had their cl rss rc mf 4 mm class PHUPHECU -,gl M union My how people change 1D 20 yc 1rs' lt seems only ye stcrday we were s11pp1ng through the halls w1thout passes and no matter how hard we tried we always were caught but those are just fond mernor1es now Let me tell you of some of the achievements our class has made 1n the last twenty years As I was talking to Ceceilia Lease last night she told me she was now star House on the side Jerry Grissom better known as Gruesome Grissom' gave me free tickets to see her wrestle in Madison Square Garden in New York Girls are you fat forty and flabby? Don't starve yourselves to death let Dav1dson's wonder drug do it for you Yes we mean good ol' Danny the brain of our class Mary Bundy now married took over Buckley s Restaurant and lt 1S now Bundy s Baby Burper w1th pickup and delivery service Trooper Phil Pike and Phy111s f1na1ly made the grade Phil just arrested Chaney's daughter and Phylhs 1S teaching shorthand to Mrs Rush's daughter Ah sweet revenge B111 Carter's sex appeal finally paid off He now lives in Bagdad w1th h1s harem of forty wives Maryellen Folkening after giving up on becoming one of B1ll's forty wives is president of the Lonely Hearts Club Our little Sue Holden the one who said she would never marry was the first of the class to weaken She met her husband in her clinic I-lolden's Freckle Farm Lee Endsley after making a stab at Hollywood decided to come back to his flfteen acre farm S1gning all those contracts was Just too much for poor Lee Raymond Means has the most noted flock of sheep in the state You can smell them from any corner of the county Do you remember our only redhead in the class Betty Mattingly? She dyed her hair black and became a spy for the FBI She was always good at tracking down men Georgia Barnard finally got her man a sailor who used to be a football player Two hundred pounds of man WOW' B111 Daugherty inherited five million dollars and bought out the globe trotters N1ce going B111 Janett Settles just cou1dn't get driving out of her system She lS sole owner of a taxi service and drives only L1ncolns and Bu1cks Charlotte Clark has made great progress in her desire to be a nurse She 1S now head nurse at Mayo Clinic Phyllis Kleiman started out to be a nurse but wound up being a veter1nar1an She speciallzes in cattle and hogs Lula Sleeth and Carolyn Bowles have given up the idea of catching a dream boat They now are co owners of the Sorrowful Soclety of Sad Spinsters Joan Vahle is now teach1ng thlrd grade at NPHS after attending Ball State where she obtained her MA degree 20 Lffj V!
