See.) Kris Tortorici, Vice Pres.: Tina Rickrode. Treas.; Wendy Smiley. Hist. We, the class of 1983, have finally, after four years of impatiently waiting, reached our year of graduation. As we look back on the past four years, we see how much we both accomplished and failed. As freshmen we remember having a car for our homecoming float because of inexperience. But, as sophomores, we came back with a second place float. Then to make us feel more like senior high students, we got our class jackets. As our fundraisers began to be very prosperous, we were on our way to success. As juniors, we were finally reaching our utmost feelings of pride as we began to dream Sweet Dreams. our prom theme. Then those dreams began to fall together and we looked forward to being a close and united senior class. Now we must leave New Oxford Senior High, but we will take along with us the memories and experiences that we have gained here, and use them to help us grow as individuals out on our own. We hope, as a class, we have set an example for the underclassmen to follow. If so, we hope it is one that will be carried for years to come. With that, we leave one final message: We are who we are, And we are proud! 16 Mrs. Rollins Thanks, Mom, for all the help you gave us as Seniors. Thanks for a ter- rific year. Thanks for helping us with all our fund raisers throughout our four years at N.O.H.S. Mrs. Anderson 17 Charles J. Althoff, Jr. David M. Althoff Kathleen A. Apostolakis Karen M. Three early season victories over Greencastle, Biglerville, and Waynesboro fueled the fires of optimism. However, four losses in the next four games put the team to the test. Facing the pros- pect of a losing season, the Co- lonials exhibited their will to win” in an exciting come from behind victory over Scotland. With James Buchanan the only obstacle to a winning season, the colonials once again proved themselves up to the task with an impressive 28 — 6 victory. Their dogged deter- mination and will to win will long be remembered by Colo- nial Football Fans. Colonials out scored their opponents with 21 goals to 10goals. Chris Robinson, captain and Holly VonSas lead the Colonials scor- ers with seven goals each. Junior Laura Baker was selected by her team mates as co-captain. The JV team record for the 1982 Season was I — 8. JV’s voted Brenda Nieves as captain and Karen Sipe as co-captain. Each of the girls played her best, both as an indi- vidual and as a member of her team. This helped the Colonials to another successful season on the hockey field. COACH CHERYL MOWERY 105 1982 JV FIELD HOCKEY TEAM WANDA WEAVER DIANA GRAMAJE ANDREA LAWRENCE KEVIN MAHER MAC ROCKEY COACH ERNIE STRIPE The 1982 season marked the debut of girls’ cross-country as a team sport at New Oxford. The team finished with a record of 1-5. Seniors on the team were Diana Gramaje, Wanda Weaver and school record holder Andi Lawrence. Meanwhile, in a re- building season, the boys’ track team finished with a record of 5-7 and placed a respectable 16th of 32 teams at the District III Meet. Sen- iors on the team were Mac Rockey and Kevin Maher. The New Oxford Golf Team had an encouraging season with a disap- pointing record. The season record of I win and 8 loses belies the fact that most of the members of the team showed considerable improve- ment since spring practices. Individually. Craig Pratt led the team with most team points scored, while Tony Hippensteel was the team leader all year, playing number one position and making an excel- lent 10th place showing at the league tournament. Returning players will be Dave Tu- shingham, Darryl Wheeler, Shawn Boyers, and Scott Hoover. Led by senior letter winners Cindy Staub, Kelly Myers, Andi Lawrence, Chris Robin- son. and sophomore letter winner Beth Rollins plus a host of underclassmen, the Lady Colonials proved once again they were a force to be reck- oned with. Kelly Myers led the team in scoring and rebounding but had outstanding offensive support from Cindy Staub, Andi Lawrence, and Beth Rollins. Fine defensive efforts of Chris Robinson turned many steals and loose balls into easy baskets for the other Colonials. Team- work, dedication, and character, these were the trademarks of the 1983 Lady Colonials. 82 — 83 WRESTLING TIM AZZANO GREG ROARK JIM SEITZ The New Oxford High School wrestling team began the season a little short on man power with only 19 boys out for the sport. Of those nineteen boys, four were seniors. Returning lettermen Tim Azzano, Jim Seitz, Brian Piper, and Greg Roark made up the nucleus of the team. The team was young with 8 sophomores and several juniors which makes the future look bright for wrestling at New Oxford. D4 MANAGER DON BOWMAN The 1982 Varsity Football Cheerleading squad practiced during band camp and afterschool at which time many new cheers were developed to make each squad unique from previous squads. They were an experienced squad who all worked hard and respected one anothers ability which made them outstanding performers during games. Spirited would describe the Varsity Wrestling Cheerleaders. As we walked down the halls to our first day's classes we noticed a tall, slender blonde haired boy with gleaming eyes and a cheery smile. We found out. to our surprise, it was none other than Peter Kirkegaard. a native of Denmark. Peter had a very difficult task before him. He had left his homeland to come to the United States to live with a new family. Mr. 6 Mrs. Alan Harbaugh of New Oxford. He had to start in a new school and meet new friends, but it wasn’t long before we were caught up by his Danish spell, warm personality, and great sense of humor. Peter, first placed in the Senior Class, took such subjects as English, trig and history. In English class he gave the students lessons about the Danish language, which proved to be quite interesting. Than Peter faced another unusual switch. He was transferred to the Junior class but still took some Senior courses. Now he had to make more new friends in the Junior class. But after only a few days. Peter's charm and wit proved an asset once again. He soon became involved in many social functions throughout NOHS. He made his grand appearance with the golf team and was intriqued by our football games. Whenever we heard that extra yell or scream we knew Peter Kirkegaard wasn't far away. He gave us spirit and inspiration. As the winter sports approached. Peter added that extra touch by being manager to the boys’ basketball team. As we. the Senior Class, approach our day of saying, good-bye. we say a special good-bye to Peter Kirkegaard who has touched our hearts. He leaves us with everlasting memories which we will never forget. Peter, thank you for 144 giving us support and happy moments which we will forever treasurer.
