Dockey who has faithfully served as the Principal of New Oxford Junior-Senior High School for the past 21 years. Mr. Dockey began his career here at New Oxford as Assistant Principal and a teacher of business education in 1948-49. Mr. Dockey, we appreciate your helpful concern throughout our years at N.O. H.S. and your unfailing willingness to listen to our every suggestion, complaint, and problem. You always conversed with us about everyday affairs and were always there with a friendly greeting. You did not treat us as inferiors or mere students, but as individuals. For this we thank you and we hope that you will continue to bring praise to this, our Alma Mater. At the Sadie Hawkins Dance we presented tricycle races. Our Sophomore dance featured The Blue Union. School jackets were ordered. Busy was our Junior year. Our dance, “Heed the Call” featured The Purple Mist. Rose Myers was chosen FFA Sweetheart. The band traveled to Harrisburg to march in the Governor’s Parade. It was a day everyone will remember due to the freezing temperature. The new dress code gave the girls permission to wear slacks. The basketball team traveled to Hershey to partici- pate in District 3 Class C quarter-final playoff. The Junior play “Take Your Medicine” was di- rected by Mr. Ralph Hamme. We ordered class rings. The Junior-Senior Prom “Blue Hawaii” featured the November band, with Ron Piper as host and Karen Ickes as hostess. Student Council election results at the end of our Junior year: President, Clare Gebhart; Vice-President, Karen Ickes; Secretary, Deb Noel; Treasurer, Doug Moul. “We’ve only just begun” was chosen as the class motto, the Purple Iris as the class flower, and purple and white as the class colors.
