DICK and DALE in Ag are fine, They're sure to win just anytime. COOKIE in playing a French Horn does well, She could become a professional, who can tell. TOOTSIE in singing takes the lead, In opera, we know she'll succeed. FRED and KRUGIE in playing cornets do well, Which one is the better, we cannot tell. BESSIE and DOT are seen together everywhere With us their jokes they always share. HORNIE is our soda jerk, At Jim's she's almost always at work. SIS in Home Ec. makes us laugh, We won't forget she was one of our class. GRIEST shines on the basketball floor, And when given the ball, he's sure to score. HELEN is always laughing in study hall, But, she's a great friend of us all. PETE is a very brilliant guy, He never takes time to give the girls an eye. JOHNNY is short, but spry, To us all, he's one swell guy. SIEGIE is about 6 feet 4, And almost always on the dance floor. BILL and HERB are some more farming guys, In knowing how to produce crops, they're very wise. YEALY and SEGRAVES are two of a kind, Seen together everywhere, never on time. JUENE in Home Ec, can sew and knit, To be a housewife, she's economically fit. To be a secretary is ECKER's aim, And to work in an othce is not a game. Basketball is LAUREL's favorite sport, She can hit the basket from the back court. JIMMY and WISEMAN both are good in basketball, Neither are short, but very tall. To get enough sleep, is JACKIE's only thought, He tries to come into class, in the morning, without being caught. In Ag NOEL is a whiz, If you don't think so, just give him a quiz. IKE is president of the F. F. A., He can cut corn and get in the hay. MARY RUTH studies all of the time, I'm sure eventually she'll become an Einstein. In driving, CHARLIE D. surely does shine, And he's usually seen with Janet Kime. EVA plays the alto clarinet in the band, She takes Home EC, but not shorthand. 11 SENIOR PLAY SENIOR PLAY CAST Seated-Dale Auchey, Maurice Myers,Fred Howe, Laurel Taylor, and Gloria Horn. Mr. Bashinsky, a jewelry salesman for Dor- ham and Riffany of New York, has his jewels stolen while staying at the hotel. This turns the hotel into an uproar, everybody becomes suspicious of the other. Tommy thinks that Mr. Bashinsky took the jewels himself and only pretends to lose them. Kat, the elevator operator, thinks that Miss Van Cleve has the diamonds in her little black bag that no one is allowed to handle. Virginia, the coffee shoppe waitress, suspects Sylvia Delaney, the show girl. Mack, the house detective suspects Helen Worth, the new waitress in the coffee- shoppe. These suspicions all prove wrong when they find Miss Van Cleve is hiding a little dog, Sylvia's diamonds are found to be artificial, and Helen Worth is the daughter of Mr. Butterworth, the rich hotel owner. At last Mr. Butterworth comes in with the diamonds found in the laundry bag. 12 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENTH We the class of '49, do ordain, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament. CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1946 we arrived at New Oxford High School as Freshmen. It was the beginning of our high school career, and we planned to make it worth while. Our class officers were: President-R. Aldridge, Vice President-W. Staub, Secretary-E. Miller, Treasurer-N. Gable. We started building our class treasury by having a skating party. We entered our Sophomore year determined to show the upper classmen we were no longer greenies , but true Sophomores. Our class officers this year were: President-N. Gable, Vice President-E. Jones, Secretary-J. Miller, Treasurer-R. Aldridge. Our main activities were two skating parties, one at the beginning of the year and the other near the end. We are now The Jolly Juniors of New Oxford and are very proud of it. The class membership is 43. We started off the year by electing the following class officers: Presi- dent-J. Miller, Vice President-J. Smeltz, Secretary-N. Gable, Treasurer-B. Chron- ister. Next, we began work on our Junior Play, Mumbo J umbo. We just had to make a success of our play because it has not been a custom at New Oxford to have a Junior Play. Every night for three weeks the Juniors could be found in the auditorium practicing. We were very happy when November 3rd and 4th were over and our play had turned out to be a success. In November we also had a skating party. The next event of this year is the Junior-Senior Prom to which we are looking forward with great anticipation. Each year many of our members participated in extra- curricular activities. Class Colors-Green and White. Flower-Carnation. Motto-Followers today, leaders tomorrow. 16 JUNIOR CLASS PLAY l L lst row-Ruth Kime, Doris Auchey, Janet Miller, Mildred Baugher. 2nd row-Nancy Benedick, Joan Smeltz, Dolores Crawford, Marian Draper, Jean Haar, Glenn Cooley, Elsie Decker. 3rd row-Iris Kinneman, Kathleen Schriver, Nancy Gable, Ethel Miller, Eugene Jones, Robert Aldridge, Charles Sipe, Edwin Trimmer, Gwendolyn Hamm, Beulah Chronister, Jerry Berwager, Herbert Crow, Wayde Stover. The New Oxford High School Band was organized in 1932 with at personnel of twenty- four members and Paul A. Hamer as director. The band has increased in membership, and the present band has seventy members. The band is an extra-curricular activity and all the members belong as a result of their own choice. The instrumentation of our band has improved, too, so that now we can satisfy -every part of the musical compositions. The band participated in the State Con- tests starting in 1933, and won in the following years, '36, '37, '39, '40, '41, '42, and '48. The State record above does not include this year's record because this article was written before the results were known. In 1936, the band participated in the Nation- al Contest held in Cleveland, Ohio, where they spent three days. The band was placed in Division Ill which represents a good per- formance. Again, in May 1941, the band participated in the National School Music Competition Festival held at Atlantic City. The judges placed the band in Division I, which represents the best conceivable performance for the event and the class of participants being jlidged were worthy of being recognized as a first place winner. In league competition, New Oxford lost only 2 games, both to Boiling Springs. Despite the fact that this year's team did not add a trophy to the case, it was considered an unusually successful season with a record of 18 wins and 5 defeats. This was Coach Flegal's second year at New Oxford, and he has continued the fine work he started last year. The team, equipped with white satin sweat suits, maroon and white striped socks, and white shoes, presented an excellent appearance on the floor. Co-Captains Jim Millar and Charles Griest led the team, Other starters were: R. Wiseman, G. Yealy, and G. Mummert. F. Howe, a senior, also saw plenty of action. 0 28 N.
