Class Poem We the class of 47 Give our room to grade eleven, In parting we bid a sad adieu And would like to say, Ve spent our best years with you. HARVEY to some, to others Monroe, Will always be smiling where ere he may go, HERB who plays a cornet so well May soon lead an orchestra who can tell, BUD , who Is the clown of the class, Always supplies us with plenty of laughs; JOYCE, who has a sweet singing voice, I m sure will be everyone a choice. FRED leads us in everything we do And, to be sure, we follow through; ED and BOB are swell in Ag In this subject they 11 never lag. MILDRED, a very quiet lass. Is one of the studious of the Senior Class; ETHEL a drummer of N.O.H.S., When asked if she liked it, she 11 say yes. BURNELL is a boy who is very shy Down deep inside he s one swell guy; JOHN our boggie-woogie boy Learned a piano is no toy. BILL WALKER is the guy with the southern drawl He comes from the South, where they say nYou-allw DON and FRED are full of fun Many a heart they have sought and won. BETTY S shy and modest way Takes a place in our hearts to stay; JANET KOHR is bound to be An office girl, it s plain to see. ALICE JANE with a pleasing disposition Hopes someday to become a physician; ARLENE S sweet personality as yet Is one that we won t quickly forget. PHYL and SPOOK are quite a pair You see them together everywhere; MIRIAM who has a small physique Is rather tall and quite unique. In Home Ec. there's no one that cen beat DOT Those Cherry pies sure hit the spot; CRIP the shortest of us all. Is rather cute and not so dull. BOB who is our farmer lad At that Job he's not so bad, MARG is always full of pep In all sports just watch her step IVAN in his father's footsteps will follow With a brain that's not so very hollow, BILL the one who is six feet tall Is our G.I. with advantage over all. RUPPFLL'P one who likes to rest And this one thing he does che best, ARTHUR' P one wh 's full of fun And always has his day's work done. in Basketball EMMA is plenty fast When given the ball she makes it last, As a nurse EVELYN should succeed In this field she'll take the lead. And so we've accounted for everyone And still our mighty work's not done, We've things to build and lots to do Before we say our work is through. Class History September 1943 ushered In another school year. The fresh- man class was quite large, and to facilitate teaching, was divid- ed into two groups. We were introduced to a departmentalized system of education, and adapted ourselves to it accordingly. This year was very important. It gave us a chance to adjust our- selves to high school life, to develop new friendships, to be- come acquainted with our instructors and their methods, and to plan for succeeding years of study. Several members of the class took part in the operetta Shreds and Patches, directed by Mrs. Cook. Some became affiliated with our band, and others chose to sing in our choruses. 1944! The school bells rang again, calling all children back to school. We took up our studies, determined to prepare ourselves for life in a world at war. We were at war, fcnd war- time conditions were not always conductive to the best type of educational program. However, we, as sophomores, made the best of a bad situation, and enjoyed another year at N.O.H.S. Miss. Hildebrand very ably conducted the play Next Door Neighbors, in which many of the sophomores participated. Several people represented our class in sports this year. 19451 We are Juniors! The junior year was a quiet one. The war had ended, but the problems ‘ of reconversion seemed to reach even into our school life and beset us with difficulties. The senior farewell party was a gay time and was enjoyed by all present. 19461 Senior play, yearbook, forensic contest, district and state bands, county music festival- - -a very busy year. We have come to the end of our high school days. This year two GI s, Myron Warren and Eston Carper, having completed prescribed cour- ses in the service of their country, will receive their diplomas along with the graduating class. During our high school days a group of students dropped from our ranks for varied reasons. Those who attended N.O.H.S.et some time as members of our class are: Lois Eh1man, Mildred Ficholtz, William Gearhart, Marie Glass, Nila Grimm, Dolores Kuhn, Shirley Milhimes, Wilbur Miller Jr.. Allen Miller, Betty Noel, Doris Pressell, Harold Rife, Charles Roche, Ruth Spicer, Martha Swain, Richard Staub, Robert Stock, Thomas Speigelmire, George Swartz- baugh, George Zortman, Mae Reichert, and Winifred Seibright. We are ready to go out into the world, with the hope that we can help to make it a better place in which to live. It is our sincere hope that we have contributed to the advancement of N.O.H.S. With these parting words we extend our best wishes to those who will follow in our footsteps, and express our gratitude to N.O.H.S. for the many happy hours spent here.
