Commanding Officer Captain Edgar J. Boudinot Jr. Captain Boudinot entered the Navy in 1942 as an Aviation Cadet after having attended the University of San Francisco and California Polytechnic Col- legeL He received his commis- sion as an Ensign in the United States Navy and was designated a Naval Aviator in November 1943. His first assignment was with Night Fighter Squadron 78 and later Fighter Squadron 20 where he served in the Pacific aboard USS ENTERPRISE, during 1944 and 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Fly- ing Cross and three Air Medals forcombat action during WWII. 9 Captain Boudinot received a BS Degree from the Univer- sity of Maryland in 1960, and was awarded a Masters De- gree in 1965 while attending George Washington University. Captain Boudinot assumed command of the USS NEW OR- LEANS on 18 December 1969, while the ship was deployed in the Western Pacific.

COMPHIBRON ONE Captain James E. McCauley Captain McCauley was ap- 'pointed a Midshipman in 1940 and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1943. After three months as a Naval Aviation Technical Observer, he reported on board the USS GRIDLEY QDD-3801. He served on that destroyer during its wartime activities in the West- ern Pacific until ordered to the Submarine School in New Lon- don, Conn. in 1944. After grad- uation he was assigned to the USS CACHALOT CSS-1705, and after its commissioning, the USS HACKLEBACK CSS-2951 where he served for the re- mainder of the war in the Pa- cific, completing three sub- marine war patrols. He served as the Com- manding Officer of the USS HERMITAGE CLSD-341 from 1965 to 1967 and assumed com- mand of COMPHIBRON,ONE on 29 March 1969. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Secretary of the Navy Commendation, and numerous service decorations. - 4 V, 6 QM f ex ss JV is ' .msgs
