r e Former Commanding Officer Captain Glen M. Even As NEW ORLEANS first Commanding Officer, Captain Glen M. Even reported to the ship while she was still under construction. He not only as- sumed the responsibility of command over NEW OR- LEANS-in itself no mean task, but it was he who guided the ship through the somewhat tedious waters of completion, trials, commissioning, outfit- ting, and preparation for her initial deployment. His labors, devotion and leadership saw NEW OR- LEANS through her birth and infancy. It is one of the major reasons why she enjoys the high degree of readiness, efficiency, habitability and morale that she does today.
