Text from Pages 1 - 208 of the 1977 volume:

4 it is the common wonder of all men, 8 . . . how among so many millions of faces there should be none alike. Sir Thomas Brown Dedication: We, the class of 1977, have for the past four years dedicated ourselves to the tree of growth and development. Through our roots we have absorbed knowledge. From our branches we have diversified our interests. We gratefully acknowledge those who have encouraged the ripening of our minds. Matured, the fruit blossoms forth — the individual 12 ... is the sweetest of pleasures. Author unknown 13 14 15 17 Bonnie Howard Teacher's Secretary Mariam Sensenbrenner Guidance Secretary Terry S. Kitney Principal s Secretary Joan Squires Registrar Dear Seniors: I was very pleased to be asked by you to write this farewell message. It has been a fascinating experience to watch the positive change that has come over the school in the short time we have been together. Much of the credit for that change goes to you, the seniors, the student body leaders. For your efforts and cooperation I will always be grateful. Now it is time for you to leave New Milford High School. Graduation time implies something even more special today than it did in the past. In today's world, graduation is not really the end of a period of growth or development, but rather the beginning. In a world of advanced learning, specialization, and improved technical training, high school seems to be a stepping stone to a completed version of ourselves. However, you should not minimize the importance of your high school learning. Through these past years, you have further developed your minds and bodies in preparation for the world ahead. You have gained an immeasurable amount of knowledge of and, hopefully, some understanding about the world which faces each of you. Your high school years are analogous to the growth of a tree. You have developed from seedlings, to saplings, to sturdy trees with branches, leaves, and finally you are about to bear the fruit of your efforts. Just as a tree's fruit is measured by its quality, so should the seeds you have sowed in high school now blossom into success and happiness in the years that lie ahead. Herbert Spencer said, Education has for its object the formation of character. The formation of character is one important aspect of the total formation gained through your years in high school. I am happy to say that for the class of 1977, the formation of character is well on the way to full development in the positive sense of the term. My best wishes to each of you. Remember tJ p TTirst began high school? What a long way you've come fra nhose days. When you were still (for the most part) little kids — all sizes, shapes, and talents. Would you recognize that self now if you could see it? You and the school have really grown in the four years — personally and academically (or practically). Moving into an era of more chances, more participation, more responsibility, and more extracurricular activities in the outside world of work and in the world of school. Our association with you has been a wonderful an interesting mixture of fun and work, planning and playing. It has mostly been grand, just getting to know you. We have loved it. We love you. As each day passes, I feel very happy for many reasons. I like New Milford High School, the people are nice and friendly, the teachers are really great and I love my family. I have found almost everything I have dreamt in my life. Although Venezuela is similar to America in many ways, we have big differences also. The weather is the principle difference for me. We don't have seasons and this year was the first time I saw the trees change color and experienced snow. I think that this will be the most beautiful experience of my life. I §m sure that I will never forget it. Thank you very much for hosting me. Thank you very much everybody! I really had a good time. These ten months would be the most valuable months in my life. Everybody really helped me, taught me, especially when I was down. One thing I want you to remember is, I came here as an individual, Isao Kubo. I am a Japanese boy before that I am an individual. I believe the friendship between you and me will not disappear forever. I wish you will make new friendships with the new exchange students. If these individual relationships become bigger and bigger and can make one big relationship, I believe misunderstanding between the countries will be solved and we can admit each other as equal creatures of God. Finally I really want to express my thanks to all my friends, the A.F.S. club and the Lindholms. Without them, I could not be staying here. Thank you very much!! I shall come back. 171 1. favorite pastime 2. secret ambition 3. pet-peeve 4. weakness 5. prized possession 6. trade mark 7. favorite saying WILLIAM J. Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand. Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay. Remember me when no more, day by day. You tell me of our future that you planned; Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterward remember, do not grieve; For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had. Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. 179 Milford ROUTE 39 SHERMAN, CT.
