The experience gained here, as well as the joyous moments spent with you will always be a part of me. Your class has reflected pride in accomplishment, which is part of our American heritage. It is a rich heritage which enables a person to use his skills to rise in an open society. Progress is the keynote of its success. If we are not to stagnate, we must constantly be looking forward. This idea was best expressed by Thomas Jefferson when he said. I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and constitutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain under the regimen of their barbarous ancesters. Hail and farewell!
