DEDICATION There s an awful lot one could say about a certain English teacher. He’s touched most of our lives through some facet of himself. Whether on a soccer field, at Chanticleer paste-ups, in the courtyard, at cross-country meets, or in the classroom, Mr. Rogers always gave of himself and demanded a certain amount of giving from his students — and he got it. While approaching literature, journalism, ecology or sports, his energetic manner and cogent speech highlighted his enthusiasm and obvious zest for life and intellect. All who came in contact with Mr. Rogers — “worms’ and “maggots” alike — experienced his radiating cognizance of life and came away a bit better for it. And now: The time has come for closing books. And long last looks must end. But, as I leave, I know that I am leaving my best friend. A friend who taught me right from wrong, And weak from strong — That’s a lot to learn. What can I give you in return? How can you thank someone who has made such an indelible impression upon you? There is only one easy way out from this bearded bard whose vocabulary, manner, and love for his students has emanated and grown with you for four years. It seems like a small thank you” for all of a man’s time and energy, but we the Senior Class of 1973 would like to extend our deepest appreciation, respect, and admiration to Mr. Lance Rogers. 5

June 1973 To The Graduating Class of June 1973: This, your senior year in high school, has been referred to as the Age of the Majority.” The Youth of America, those under twenty-five years of age, make up the greatest number of United States Citizens. Among the privileges extended to you this past year are the right to vote, to sign contracts, and to purchase alcoholic beverages. These privileges will be accompanied by varied responsibilities. The responsibility to vote should not be taken for granted. Edmund Burk said over 200 years ago — “All that is necessary for the forces of evil to win the world is for enough good men to do nothing.” One should exercise this right which is denied men in many parts of the world. Another responsibility is that of contract. These agreements require the legal advice of experts when they involve large sums of money. The old saying that he who uses himself for an attorney has a fool for a client,” serves to remind us of the caution which should be exercised before engaging in a major contract. One should be cognizant of the dangers in excessive use of alcohol. Shakespeare alludes to this in Othello. The quote is as follows: “O God; that man should put an enemy in their mouths to steal away their brains; that we should with joy, pleasance, revel, and applause, transform ourselves into beasts.” Shakespeare, Othello. II, 3 A vote of confidence has been extended to you. Through the American system of government, the rights of the individual have been expanded. The responsibility to exercise these rights in a mature manner are incumbent upon the recipient, you. May all that you strive for be realized. I have enjoyed my association with you, the class of June, 1973. Sincerely yours, Nathan Chesler Principal
