Text from Pages 1 - 176 of the 1971 volume:

The present senior class has markedly contributed to the development of this school — the myriad nameless sacrifices that many have made to class, school, and learning. When the class of 71 first came, there was a rather acute period of negativism, nihilism manifested not only in this school’s youth but in the nation’s youth as well. As the class of 71 matured, it became aware that amidst the anguish of studious application there was value and joy. A spirit that was not present in the school when we were freshmen and sophomores was nurtured — a spirit that seemed to recognize that out of school life one could receive reward and enjoyment. The faculty is profoundly aware that this senior class by their intelligence, industry, and humor has contributed much to the school that is positive, enthusiastic and genuine — and w'e are grateful. The class of 71 has left behind footprints firmly imbedded in our consciousness; and I as your advisor express my gratitude for fond remembrances and express my wishes for future happiness. To you, the members of the class of 1971, I feel qualified to say very little, as you have been members of the New Milford High School family longer than I. Howrever, since all of you will agree that I am older than yourselves, I shall attempt to express a few sincere words of advice. A mistake common to all ages is to spend so much time looking forward to and preparing for the future that the gifts of the present are lost. I hope the coming years are rewarding ones for all of you, whether they hold further education, military service, a family, or your first ' real’’ job. I would join in encouraging you to make the most of your own abilities and opportunities to do the things you truly want to do while you’re still young enough to enjoy them! My most sincere best wishes to you all. Hr. Sequin CROSS-COUNTRY If I ever remembered the Cross-Country Team of 1970 ... I’d remember an undefeated season. I’d remember accepting the second team trophy at the class MState Meet.. I’d remember being Western Connecticut Champions. I’d remember the Saturday practices and the fun we had running through the autumn woods. I’d remember some of the hard workouts and some of the tough miles, the work, the sweat. I’d remember the pride and spirit that we had as a team. . . . But most of all. I’d remember Mr. Rogers ... all the guys .. . and Cross-Country. 120 121 SENIORS NO NEW MILFORD HIGH SCHOOL NAME Wayne Riley Wilson Parker Jim Munch Gary Fitch Dave Golembeski Ed Turner Bob Stack John Drzal Allen Williams Dave Delohery John Fumal Fred Arbusto Greg Mitchell Joe Lennanc Brian Daniels Bill Barnhart Larry Kennedy Ted Schultz Tom Grossenbacker Mike Mercer A1 Chisholm Paul Weiss Dan Straub Jeff Tiebout George Marohn Randy Harris Denis Neiman Brad Carlson Joe McKay Randy Van Coughnect Marty Osuch Mike Kayser Tom Iannacone, Head Backfield Coach Paul Malinski, Line Coach POS. New Milford Mr. Sadowski; Dan Straub; Mr. Iannaconc; Jeff Ti ■L Malinski New Milford High School has always worked hard to promote football. It is a v nding sport involving teamwork as well as individual participation. The sweat and the hard work of this past season's team have helped reflect the s] in our school. We dedicate these few pages to them, for their contribution. FOOTBALL JV Football Row 1: D. Dclohery; B. Barnhart; L. Kennedy; P. Grossenbacher; R. Stack; J. Munch; D. Golembeski. Row 2: D. Sadowski, Coach; J. Fumal; M. Olsen; G. Marohn Freshmen On this page you see the meanest, toughest, and strongest Freshman team in the WCC. This team averaged 52.5 points per game; the average of points scored against them by the opposition was 17.3 points. They remained undefeated. 12 New Milford High School has always had fine basketball teams. That same fine quality could be seen in this year’s team. This was a team that faced reality. Their tallest man was but a few inches over six feet. The only way to win was to hustle. They were able to make up for their lack of height in speed, endurance, spirit, and pride. We are immensely proud of this team. I don’t quite know. Down to the stream where the king-cups grow-Up on the hill where the pine trees blow-Anywhere, anywhere. I don’t know. Where am I going? The clouds sail by, Little ones, baby ones, over the sky. Where am I going? The shadows pass, Little ones, baby ones, over the grass . . . Where am I going? The high rooks call: It’s awful fun to be born at all.” Where am I going? The ring-doves coo: We do have beautiful things to do ... ” Where am I going? I don’t quite know. What does it matter where people go? Down to the woods where the blue-bells grow-Anywhere, anywhere. I don’t know. A. A Milne Photo by Carl Lindstedt This is my letter to the World That never wrote to Me— The simple News that Nature told— With tender Majesty— Her Message is committed To Hands I cannot see— For love of Her—Sweet—countrymen— Judge tenderly—of Me Emily Dickinson
