Table of Contents Dedication Administration Faculty Seniors Highlights '66-'67 Underclassmen Productions Activities Sports Candids Remember When Sponsors Autographs 2 MR. JAMES DOWD Dedication We, the class of 1967, dedicate our yearbook to Mrs. Frances Zaloski and Mr. James Dowd in appreciation of the help and guidance they have given us through the years as our class advisers. They have unselfishly given of their time and effort to help us make our class projects successful. Mrs. Zaloski has been our class adviser for four years. She has done more to instill in us a sense of school spirit and class unity than anyone else. She has always been there to guide and encourage us. Evidence of her help is seen in the successes of our Sophomore Talent Show, Junior Prom, Magazine Campaign, Socials, and many other class activities. Although he has been our class adviser for only two years, Mr. Dowd will always be remembered for his unfailing interest in our class, as a whole and as individuals. His help with our class activities and his personal friendship have made him an integral part of our school life. It is with many thanks that we dedicate the 1967 Schaghticoke to our friends and advisers, Mrs. Zaloski and Mr. Dowd. 5 To The Class of 1967: It is our sincere wish that New Milford High School has provided you with the opportunities to acquire some of the skills, knowledge, and attitudes so necessary for success and useful citizenship. Our Goalie’' 120 Foo+ball The fall of 1966 welcomed varsity football back to N.M.H.S. after ten years. In its first varsity season the Green Wave showed great promise, finishing with a record of one win, four losses, and one tie. The last game, against second-place Joel Barlow, was a close loss, 2-6. Top scorer was Co-Captain Rick Planz, one of the eight senior players. Despite the loss of these seniors, the 1967 Green Wave looks like a good team. Varsity Row 1: R. Ayre; T. Conn; B. Not only did they cheer and raise spirits at the basketball games, but they also added color and enthusiasm to the Varsity Football games. This year’s squad consists of nine seniors, one junior, two sophomores, and a senior manager. Led by their peppy captain, Susie Stone, and guided by Mrs. West and Miss Mace, their coaches, the girls showed their skills with new cheers and many of their old favorites. 124 Row 1: D. Squires; S. The Cross Country team finished the 1966 season undefeated under the guidance of Coach Scribner, once again demonstrating New Milford’s undisputed supremacy in the Western Connecticut Conference. The team was sparked by graduating senior John Bucinsley, who holds the track record at every participating school in the conference, setting new records in five consecutive meets this year. Over all, the team’s record for the 1966 season is: first place in the Western Connecticut Conference; first place, Southwestern Connecticut class M” meet; third place, State class M” meet; seventh place state-wide. Co-captains John Bucinsley and Bill Bellion keep in shape even during the winter. W.C.C. Champions Bill Bellion and Ron Gero work out. 127 In the fall of 1966 a new way of giving sports awards was introduced. Instead of the usual spring banquet, awards were presented at a school assembly. The awards in each sport, field hockey, cross-country, and football, were presented by the coach of that particular sport. Recognition in field hockey went to Sue Bristol, Most Improved Player, and Captain Diane Lynch, Most Valuable Player. Awards were presented by Mrs. Frances Zaloski. Coach David Scribner presented Pete Squires with the award for most improved member of the cross-country team. Of no surprise was the selection of John Bucinsley as most valuable player. Football players receiving awards from Coach Jim King were Chip Dorwin, Most Improved Lineman; Tom Fumal, Most Valuable Lineman; Tim Conn, Most Improved Back, and Rick Planz, Most Valuable Back. Awards weren’t only for students, either. On behalf of the New Milford Junior Chamber of Commerce, Mr. George Doring presented the annual Physical Fitness Leadership Award to Mr. Joseph Wiser, New Milford High School Athletic Director. Also on hand was Mr. Arthur Bona, New Milford Times sports writer, who addressed the assembly on the value of sports and spirit at New Milford High. Several films of the teams in action were shown. 128 A : it up r George, our mascot. Girls' Basketball C. Kibbe; J. Hibbard; P. Wallian; C. Carter; M. Munch, Co-Capta.n; Mrs. Zaloski, Coach; B. Cocaptains Rick Planz and Bill Meddaugh led the young team, which posted an early season win over a strong alumni aggregate. Coach Whitcomb can look forward to next year’s team with six returning lettermen and several good prospects from Coach Donald Wharton's fine 13-4 junior varsity squad. 131 132 133 Dialogue at a Basketball Game Hi, Susie! Come on up and sit here.” Hi, Linda. How’s the game going?” We’re tied.” Yeah? Who are we playing?” Huh? Did you get that stuff today in chemistry?” Are you kidding? Who are we playing?” Boy, look at that shot! Too bad it was for the other team!” Well, while we’re on the subject ...” Hey! I forgot to tell you—Pat told me to tell you that she knew what was going on all the time and that she wasn’t so dumb.” That’s what she thinks. Hey, look at the scoreboard! We’re ahead. Only thirteen seconds to go. By the way, who are we playing?” ... five ... four ... three ... two ... one ... WE WON!” Great, but who’d we beat, Linda? Somebody? Anybody?” 134 I didn't mean to do it. There is the very real part—the long, hot hours of rehearsal, practicing the right step. You hear the familiar Pomp and Circumstance”, and everybody laughs. Then the caps and gowns come.
