“Not a log in this building but its memories has got; and not a nail in this old floor but touches a tender spoi. Anonymous FOREWORD This is Schaghticoke, the story of the class of 1962. Just what is the New Milford High School Class of 1962? Statistically the class consists of one hundred young men and women. But Schaghticoke is more than statistics, it is a biography, a story, and a diary. It is the biography of a group of people from its birth four years ago to its maturity upon graduation. It is the story of boys and girls who learned to work, play, and live with others, while acquiring the foundations for their place in the adult world. It is the diary of the day to day accomplishments of each of them, the triumphs and the tragedies, the rewards and the goals. For the Class of ’62 represents not only one hundred individuals but one hundred separate hopes, dreams, and ambitions for a future that they have essentially prepared for here at NMHS. Today, these doors open to one hundred different paths each leading in a different direction. Eventually some may cross again, and still others merge to form a smoother highway. Regardless of direction and terrain we should like to express here our sincere wish that each path may ultimately bring its particular traveler to the realization of every dream and ambition and the satisfaction of a rich and fully successful life. God speed! The Editors 3 MR. RUSSELL DEVIN “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” Adams DEDICATION The class of 1962 proudly dedicates this, its yearbook, to Mr. Devin as a small token of the admiration and gratitude that we feel this man deserves. To us he represents an outstanding example of the unselfish dedication and conscientious proficiency that has made teaching the great vocation that it is. With this dedication we attempt to express in part, at least, this great appreciation, not only for the class of ’62, but on behalf of the countless number of students who, during his many years at New Milford High School, have benefited from his experience, his expert instruction and sincere advice. Too often his task seems thankless and one devoid of personal glory. But the admiration, respect and prestige won by such men as Mr. Devin can never be obtained in any other endeavor. The hours of personal time devoted to aiding students and constant self-improvement stand as a monument to this member of that unique and noble breed, the true public servant. With this yearbook we strive to preserve the memory of our four years here at New Milford High School. For those of us who lived them, they never shall be forgotten, and neither will the man who has become as much a part of those four years as the diplomas we are about to receive, Mr. Russell Devin. 5 ADMINISTRATION PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE To the Class of 1962, may I extend my sincere congratulations on the many accomplishments that you have made during the past four years while attending New Milford High School. This yearbook is a symbol of accomplishment. Whatever your particular line of work, the yearbook, which announces that you have achieved success, is well worth keeping and displaying. May I extend to each and every member of the Class of 1962 my congratulations and my wish for all, complete success in whatever field of endeavor you decide to make your life’s work. Look toward the horizon and build your dreams for the days that lie ahead. Raymond L. Trabold, Principal New Milford High School 0 f MR. BOURDEAU Assistant Principal MR.
