STUDENT SENA TE ' Will this session PLEASE come to order? ' ASC Vice-President Charles McCoy opens one of 21 Student Senate sessions held during the 1958- ' 59 school year. McCoy pre- sided over a total of 19 senators who represented NMSU ' s student body, and it was this group ' s job to write new and review old bills governing the students on this campus. Filling in McCoy ' s post next year will be this year ' s Teacher Education rep- resentative, Elizabeth Forehand. Other new senators include: Dick Lemmon. Jo Ann Major. Tom Crume, Alice Valentine. Mark White, Sandra DeBusk. James Sachse. James Tigner, Sam Edmondson. Larry Crouse, Kit Milam. Mary Ann Burk. Mary Kay Holmes, Sandra Little. Jean Rayroux. and Hank Cwieka. ASSOCIATED WOMEN STUDENTS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL Sponsor Mrs. Martha Hall President Laura Vigil Vice President Roberta Baird Secretary Roberta Boney Treasurer Pat Bagley Reporter Gerry Stone Clearing House Chairman Peggy Hughes ASSOCIATED WOMEN STUDENTS (known on campus as AWS) consists of every woman enrolled at New Mexico State University. The Association acts as a coordinating body for all women ' s organizations in setting the standards for living and working together on campus. It promotes and works for unity and fellow- ship among women students and provides opportunities for leadership and service to the campus community through active participation in worthwhile activities. AWS activities include the sponsorship of Big-Little Sister program, Starlite Ball, ushering at football games and plays, and in providing volunteers for Memorial Hospital and other community organizations. Each year an AWS handbook is published for the benefit of every woman student. From funds received from Penny A Minute nights, an AWS Scholarship was estai)lished to be presented annually. Climaxing the year ' s activities is Woman of Achievement Banquet which honors an outstanding Senior Woman and a Woman from the com- munity. 26
