NEW MEXICO COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND MECHANIC ARTS OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT STATE COLLEGE. NEW MEXICO December 7, 1953 TO THE STUDENT BODY: The central theme, Sixty-Five Years of Progress, chosen by the editor of the student annual this year suggests much more than can be covered in one brief statement. Records show that, for the first fifty years, the growth of the A. M. College was slow, when measured either in terms of enrollment or of physical plant. But a glance at the record of alumni who attended the College during those lean years shows that real progress was being made in terms of human values. Mot because of superior management, but because of conditions at least partly external to the campus, the progress of the College is now much mors rapid. Enrollment has doubled since, and partly because of, the Second iorld rfar. The book value of the physical plant has much more than doubled in the same period. Prospects for future progress are excellent. The people of New Mexico believe in the program of the institution and want to support it. Their sons and daughters are coming to the campus in larger numbers each year. Appropriations have been increased significantly each biennium in recent years. Better salaries enable the College to attract well qualified ad- ditions tc its staff. Only gross mismanagement can prevent the growth and development of New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in the yea s ahead. Sincerely yours, a .
